On account of hair shedding!

Right so any suggestions - want something that is not huge, something that can be trained, something that doesn't shed too much hair. We have room for a dog and a big garden and fields to go walking in so would prefer something that in DHs words 'Doesn't make me look like a complete faggot!' (So yorkies are out!)

Are airedales a bit, erm, challenging to train? I used to walk one and he didn't seem to understand basics. That could just have been bad training though I guess!

Get the brown lab!!!

I'd go for a springer too...they are lovely. Surely there will always be a certain amount of lost fur, but you could always pass the vacuum round

We have a springer who is mostly white and she sheds loads! MAybe it's just because the hairs are white that we notice?

Cockers are good, not very sheddy.

Clairepo our airdale has been really easy to train. he does have a tendancy to put on a death ear lol but that is there trait. but he is so placid and good with lo. we did find out after a while that they like lots of attention when training more so than treats.
i suppose what ever dog you have can be a monkey to train (my mums yorkie is a nightmare).

springers are lovely dogs though aswell hun but i like labs aswell we went for the airedale as my hubby wanted a big dog and the fact we knew the person he came off and ifell in love with him

but our mutley from the dogs home is an absolute star and if i had to get another dog id do the same again id go to a dogs home and buy a pup from there.

i hope which ever dog you get hun is lovely and you really enjoy having it

My cousin has a chocolate lab, and it may be that she is unlucky, but it is the dimmest most charmless dog I have ever encountered. Also smells unpleasant even though she washes it regularly.

greyhound or staffie.

  • shed very little
  • perfect temperaments, great with kids.
  • in the case of staffies, very playful so love having kids around to play football with etc!
  • greyhounds only need about 45 mins walk per day, very low maintenance. staffies are happy with an hour or so.

but really, any dog will make a good pet as long as it is trained & socialized properly.

check out www.animalrescuers.co.uk if you'd be interested in adopting a dog.
