We've just got a new cat and are arguing about names...

...she's black with brown splodges and a thin pale stripe down her face(tortoiseshell, I think you'd call her) and looks quite exotic, so we're racking our brains for a suitable name. DH has suggested things like Treacle, but dd objects to that kind of name, & we don't want anything too common/boring. Any suggestions - as imaginative as possible! - gratefully received!

gow about Zora?
There was a book in german called "die rote Zora" red Zora" and the character was a red haired gill and was really feisty ,cheeky and lovable

link to cat name site :)

I wondered about Shere (as in Shere Khan) but that was rejected; not Mizz because that's one of dd's nicknames. Tortious sounds too like a ... well, it's obvious what! - but of the others I quite like Ariel - although I suspect dh would again point out that it's a male name.

piratecat · 28/08/2008 23:33

Flossyjim · 28/08/2008 23:34

We had our cats for a couple of weeks before naming them. Just to suss out their personalities.
We have the king cats in our village!
Frank Cornelius Arbuckle Shillingford (cos he's fat)and
Herbert Montgomery Bandicoot Buchanan (cos he's naughty)

fizzy? fluer?

overthehill · 28/08/2008 23:37

Errr, yes I suppose Harlequin is a boy as well, but I was just a bit carried away wby the fact that her markings do quite go with the name. Maybe Harlequeen?? Trouble is, there are far more good boy names - but I think a sex-change op for a cat is probably going a bit far...

3andnomore · 28/08/2008 23:41

lol ....our littlr Tomcat was called Shinobi , because our dog is called Ninja...

fuzzywuzzy · 28/08/2008 23:42

Banquo

Bowddee · 28/08/2008 23:42

TBH most people think my Harlequin is a girl anyway. He looks like one.

overthehill · 28/08/2008 23:42

Flossyjim, I think you're right thinking that it might be good to wait to see what her personality's like. Mind you, we do have "issues" with names, & not just those for pets: our dd waited nearly 2 weeks before we hit on her name and ds over a week - although we had a deadline for him as it was going on a fundraising brick in the playground of the new school! Meanwhile dh completely rejected both the names his parents gave him & chose something different...

Thanks for the goddess names site, 3&NM, I had no idea there were so many, & there's certainly plenty to go on, although I think I'd draw the line at Adhimukticarya...

now...imo that is jyst a wonderful name for a cat...lol....

overthehill · 29/08/2008 00:05

From the goddess names: Athena, Chaya (Shadow), Venus, Shashti (goddess of cats), Persephone, Minerva, Minaksi, Isis - all ones to add to the list, methinks.

Dd and I also quite like Koshka, which is apparently Russian for cat, but ds doesn't.

Chaya sounds cool

Flossyjim · 31/08/2008 00:06

Have you decided on a name yet? What about Zsa Zsa? Or has someone suggested that already?

mum2bean · 31/08/2008 00:14

hope you decide on a name, unlike me and DP, our porr kitten is now called kitty kitty as we couldn't think of what to call 'her' and 'she' took to it, and will not answere to anything else, now found out kitty kitty is a boy.......

Hermione is so cool for a cat!
In general Shakespeare characters make good, posh cat names - e.g Ophelia, Miranda or othello, macbeth for a boy!

or something new-age like Summer, Hope, Willow, that sort of thing?

Boobz · 02/09/2008 14:28

Bathsheba
