If your dog was barking, would Environmental Health come round and tell you to muzzle the dog?

Because my mum seems to think so One of the dogs has started to bark (ie. going from never barking to starting to bark at birds, not at all more than the average dog BTW) and she rung this morning screaming EH had been there and told her to get a muzzle for him. I know for a fact he barks very little (he's a puppy and only just discovered how to bark properly), it's only ever during the day anyway so not a EH issue and would be very very suprised if they would suggest a muzzle, that to me would be an RSPCA issue itself! Please confirm my mum is making up a load of bullshit to wind me up (again). She did similar a few weeks ago - said the dog had gone but the gate was shut so was stolen, as soon as I mentioned "get off the phone, i'm calling the police" he was suddenly spotted hiding down the side of the house .

LoW Happy due date*

you mum really does give you trouble doesn't she, sounds a bit dodgy tbh but is it her dog or your dog? If its her's could you not just totally ignore it and blame it on pregnancy new baby later?????

I used to do this sort of thing for EH but we never recommended muzzling. We did visit if there was someone home and give recommendations (e.g. if its when its left put the radio on, make sure its not at the front of the house, excercised and training tips). We did this if the neighbours had complained even if it wasn't proved to be a noise nuisance, its just some helpful advice really. If there were still complaints we'd follow it up with monitoring and a warning letter, more complaints and the noise would be monitored again, and then a noise abatement notice served if its deemed a nuisance, if it still barks you go to court. I would ask your mum to give you the name of the Environmental Health Officer so you can ring them up to speak to them yourself for advice. If they did come around they won't mind you giving them a ring, if they didn't your mum will have to tell you.
I can't believe she'd make that sort of thing up though!

Sorry, I don't mean I don't beleive you, just that its a nasty thing to make up.

I'm a bit confused here...
is it your dog or your mums?
if it is your dog... why is it at your mums as it sounds like she doesn't want it there and is making excused for you to take it away...

beat me to it litte B, re: asking who the Environmental Health Officer was. Aren't they supposed to leave paperwork saying that a visit was made and recommendations for improvement?

Not sure how muzzling a dog would stop them barking?
