I really want to get a rabbit for DS. Potential problems -

We have two cats
We have no grass just a courtyard garden

What do you need as far as financial outlay goes? Can the rabbits live indoors and/or outdoorts? Will my cats try to eat them? Do rabbits like company in the form of another rabbit i.e. if I am going to get one should I do the kind thing and get two or do they not care?

Same questions for guinea pigs!

This is for sort of... off in the future probably as I havent got any money at the moment but his birthday is in August and I am just thinking. Please advise!!!

i have cats, dogs and rabbit. the rabbit comes indoors at night and stays indoor throughout the winter. She has outside hutch, and indoor cagey thing.

not hugely expensive pets to keep, newspaper for bedding with some hay/straw or woodchip. feeding bottle and rabbit/guinea pig food. they are happy to eat the veg peelings.

to be honest, the cleaning has been left ot me, and i find it a total pain in the arse. Not because i dont like the rabbit, but as usual the dc's promises to look after it wore a bit thin within weeks!

My cat is fine with the rabbit. dogs killed the last one though....

gosh. I have been thinking about it some more. Am probably not going to get one. I found an aquarium to be too much maintenance. I just think you get more back from little furry things than fish so maybe I wouldnt resent it so much.

Guineapigs over rabbits any day I reckon. They are very accomodating, willl be handled and brushed, don't bite ( ours have never bitten). And we think they're utterly cute.
They need a hutch and a run, and they need company.
I think the general view is that rabbits can be more demanding, they need company too, and probably would be happier with more space than they're usually given. they can be house rabits though.

We use newspaper lining the hutch for our pigs, with plenty of hay each day. They get grass, danelions and various greens and fruit. Favourite stuff includes melon, cucumber, bananas and broccoli stalks. they also have to have a mixed grain food like gerty guineapig, because they can't make vit c by themselves.

Good luck if you do decide to go ahead. I'm the one in our house who deals with them in the term time mostly, twice a day they get a visit with food, clean out about every 4/5 days; but I do really like them ( sad woman)....

I'd agree with egineas as the best option - esp if you haven; got much space - our 4 are lovely and I don't even mind cleaning them out!
