And it is going to cost £2380 to fix. Thankfully we have insurance, but the vets wanted paid upfront!

How did he do that?

saltire · 23/06/2008 19:07

I don't know how he did it - well I do sort of. We were going out for a walk, and he saw my neighbour so he ran over to jump all over her, and I don't know if the lead caught in his leg, or if it jammed, but he seemed to fall over. Then he was yelping really loudly, and all the neighbours came out.

I didn't pay teh £2380, I convinced the vets (they do this in special circs) to claim direct from insurers! thankfully he agreed

Poor puppy. And poor you. Has the vet said that "you'll need to make sure he doesn't try to jump or run" yet?

I thought my Kittens broken hip was bad - £407 - but that makes it seems like nothing!

When our dog lost her eye, she had to see a specialist and there was a sign up saying that they DO NOT claim direct from insurers. I was crapping myself as the final bill was about £3000! In the end, they took a post dated cheque to last until the insurance had paid out but I was beside myself with worry that the insurers would find some reason not to pay out.

sorry about your dog. I did find though, that they are surprisingly resilient and don't seem to care that they are injured.

Sorry I didn't get back to this.
Poor puppy was feeling very sorry for himself when we left him at the vets this evening.
We had to pay a £500 deposit - and no they don't accept post dated cheques!. So apparently we will get some of that back once the cheque comes through from the insurance company - minus the £50 excess and minus £58 "admin charge" that they are charging us for the hassle of them claiming directly!
When I was in there a poor woman was in floods of tears becasue she didn't have £500 to pay the deposit for the pet staying overnight.
I have never heard of such extortinate vets fees before, and we had 2 dogs for 14 years,
