Cat being sick after meals despite smaller portions and vet advice

I adopted an 8-year-old cat five months ago. He has settled in well but keeps being sick after he feeds. Although my vet doesn't seem concerned, I am worried. I've never had a cat do this before - or know of any of my friends with cats who have this problem. I'm giving him smaller portions but it doesn't seem to make any difference. Please does anyone have any ideas or words of wisdom?

What brand of food are you giving. We had this with Felix cat food. Switched to a different brand, problem solved

Have you tried raised, tilted bowls? That helped with ours.

Are his teeth ok? If he has got issues with his teeth he might not be chewing properly and gobbling the food which has caused issues with my old boy. Also you could try a slow feeder bowl. Also issue could be made worse by hairballs so you could try anti hairball food and / or add the hairball paste to his food.

Thank you, you three who replied so speedily. Have been trying different brands of food to see if there's any he really likes. Not keen on Felix and I thought he liked Purina One wet catfood - but he throws that up too! Aaagghh! The slow feeder bowl was a total revelation; never knew such things existed! Have ordered two from Amazon and they arrive tomorrow. Fingers crossed!😃

Hopefully it's nothing serious but it can be a sign of medical problems, did the vet offer an tray and blood tests. Is your cat toileting normally. Where did you adopt him from, was there any mention of sensitive tummy, vomiting or intolerance. Is he wormed.

Ours was like this at first, rescue cat from a very bad background. We gave her smaller portions, a little bit at a time, and gradually her being sick improved over a few months, as I guess her stomach wasn't used to being fed properly. But she wasn't being sick each time. The vet said to monitor and come back if it continued. She's now only sick occasionally, often when we're away and the cat feeder has to give her a whole pouch at once.

Also she hadn't been outside before, and still sometimes throws up grass stems!

We had a cat who started being sick after every meal and it transpired he'd developed an inflammatory gut issue and needed medication as well as a grain free diet for the rest of his life. He was a bit older though (14, survived to 18) and was noticeably losing weight so the vet was very keen to work out the problem. I hope you can get to the bottom of what's causing your cat's issue soon.

Does he go out? If so they sometimes eat/chew plants that make them vomit. Or they simply bolt their food. Half the cats I've owned (four) have been habitual pukers. There was nothing wrong with them. Except one who has sensitive stomach so he has special food.

Smaller meals and often. Mine developed throwing up after breakfast and that was because she'd gone too long without food in her tummy and it was just acid so the food didn't settle. Giving her a portion of biscuits when we went to bed helped enormously (and stopped her from begging for breakfast at 6am).

The other thing that can cause it is slight hairball blockage. Try hairball paste or royal canin hairball biscuits (found these to be best). Think of it as being equivalent to a kitchen sink cleaner to help stop the water from backing up the plughole.

Doing all three helped stop the problem.

1.Could it be kidney problems
OR
2.Try Purina food.
My friends vet mentioned this and it helped!

Good luck
