Cat poo

Does anyone have any tips for repelling cat poo in the garden that work. I live on a street where lots of the neighbours have cats. It’s getting to the point where I am having to clean up multiple poo and diarrhoea off the lawn. It’s getting to the point where it’s making me feel physically sick and I’m wretching. I feel avoidant of the garden and don’t want my children outside. I used to be a cat lover but I’m sorry to say I now resent them. Things I’ve tried is citrus pellets, high frequency sound, vinegar spray. I’ve just bought some lion poo pellets but have no idea if they work. It’s tricky at the moment as with the frequent rain it probably is washing away. I’ve also put brambles all round the bottom of the trees/bushes to try and put them off. I’ve been thinking of asking the neighbours to maybe take some responsibility and offer to check/clean the gardens because it’s not just one cat it’s lots of different ones and I know they all live on the street

any advice much appreciated .

This sounds awful. Is it definitely cats, not foxes? Cats usually bury their faeces. I've had cats all my life & have never seen one poo on the lawn.

If you feel brave enough, ask the cat owners if they can dig over a little patch of earth in their own gardens. The cats are likely to use those instead of your garden.

It’s definitley cats, they are very brazen. If you catch them and try to shoo them away they just sit there looking at you. It’s sounds bonkers but I’m starting to know which cat has visited based on the poo. There’s definitely a territory issue because once you’ve cleaned up the next cat comes to try and claim the garden. The front gardens are long but ours and next door has no fencing so seperated with a path down the middle and next door has 2 cats and they never poo on her side, always ours it’s bizzare. Thankyou I think I do need to have a word with some of the neighbours about it. I’m surprised at how much it is starting to affect me.

My parents use human man pee in their garden and it has stopped alll the neighbourhood cats pooping in their garden. Bit gross but nothing else has worked as well

I hate cats. We had the same issue and constantly had to clean poo off the lawn before letting the kids play on there. Why is it considered socially acceptable that cats can come and poo all over your lawn? If a dog did that, the local residents’ Facebook group would be in uproar.

Not to mention cats kill tens of millions of garden birds a year.

I’d suggest getting a taser to zap them with.

Surely it kills the grass?

I feel like asking the cat owners to do a rota where they can come and check and clean peoples gardens but i know that will go down like a lead balloon.
we had this device that’s meant to send high frequency sounds that the cats don’t like but they seemed to just get used to the sound. I
know some people use water guns but I feel a bit cruel and don’t want to upset the neighbours

Automated water sprinklers are an option. But I think water guns are a reasonable option. If the owners don’t like it, then they can always stop the cats coming in your garden.

So sorry you’re dealing with this – that sounds really unpleasant. I’ve heard that motion-activated water sprinklers can be more effective than pellets or smells, especially with all the rain washing things away. Some people also use chicken wire just under the lawn/soil to stop cats digging. It might be worth having a calm chat with neighbours too – they may not realise how bad it’s got. Hope you find something that works soon 🤞

Spray the cats with water, it won't hurt them but will deter them. I have a cat now and have used this to deter my own cat from picking my sofa and I can assure you he still likes me....well as much as cats like humans, he certainly isn't afraid of me but he rarely picks the sofa, unless he is being a complete twat...and he will usually give me a side eye before hand just so I know it's meant intentionally to annoy me.

When I lived in the city with a small backyard (and no cat of my own) I had the same issue until I got a pair of male guinea pigs who used to roam free in the garden. The cats were fascinated but never came in the garden again, no idea if it was the incessant squeaking or their scent but it got rid of the cats. Of course the guinea pigs then ate every plant in sight but it was better than the cats.

I've also used some of that pet disinfectant on decking and sheds to remove the smell of other cats who have started spraying in my garden before. Obviously won't work on grass though.
