Cat nightmare , do I cancel going away?

Hi ,
I’m miserable because my cat sitter on their second visit this evening couldn’t get my cat to take his heart tablet. (We are away with in laws for Xmas) . He normally has it in his food which he gets locked in my bedroom with (he sleeps there) for 15minutes to give him a chance to eat it and lock out the other cat who steals his food.

He always eats it so I was surprised when the cat sitter said he wouldn’t come out from the bed to eat it , even when left for 20 minutes.

I’m going to drive home tomorrow afternoon after Christmas lunch tomorrow to give him his tablet and will have to drive back 3 hours on Boxing Day to collect my partner and kids as we only have one car.

i now need to try and book a cattery for the 28th of December which is when we go on holiday. I was really hoping to avoid this (hence the cat sitter) because he is a really nervous and even kept with the other cat I’m worried he won’t cope. If I can find a cattery this short notice, I wanted to ask has anyone had positive experiences with a nervous cat or should I tell my husband to take the kids away abroad and I stay home? Husband is upset I may be leaving him alone with the kids. Any advice would be very much appreciated.

You can only do your best your not superwoman so don't beat yourself up.
. You need to prioritise If your cat hasn't taken the medicine just leave it.. Cats will always look after number one and are very resilient
.You and your family has to come first here. I'm sure if you reach out and try some neighbours or a cat charity someone will come and feed him/her while you're away.

I’m really sorry to hear that, what a nightmare. We had similar issues with our old cat and meds, she was on so many in the end, we ended up crushing them into lik e lix (luckily they were all crushable, not all tablets are) and she used to have them that way. Would something like that be worth a try for the cat sitter to put under the bed? Or is there any food he loves they could hide it in, soft cheese maybe?
I expect he was upset with the loss of his people and normal routine. It’s so hard when they won’t have meds they really need and it makes it so hard to go away.
If I had tried everything else and my cat wouldn’t take meds they needed to survive with someone else then no I wouldn’t go away. I can’t comment on a cattery as we’ve never done it, has he been to one before? Are there any family or friends he knows and likes who may have more success with the meds than the cat sitter?
Good luck, I hope for a positive outcome for all of you, it’s so stressful as they’re family and depend on us.
