Is it worth putting my two cats in cattery for a night ?

On Sunday we are going away for the night and in my head I thought they will be okay alone (2 cats both 3,bonded and healthy )
We leave 8am Sunday and arrive back home 6pm Monday.
Will they be okay at home ? Or should I take them to our cattery ? There’s spaces and they accept 1 night but our girl is a very nervous girl and hates going.
I don’t know if it’s going to be more upsetting.

Thanks everyone we are gonna leave them at home.
i think they will be happier well deffo our girl.
Going to make sure everything is safe
Last stupid question but would you leave the heating on for them ?
It turns itself off when it reaches the temperature set
So say il leave it on 19 degrees

Cats have fur coats!, but at this time of year I would leave the heating on tick over anyway.

OnlyHereForTheChristmasBoard · 23/12/2025 10:15

Your cats are very beautiful:) Glad to hear you are leaving them at home, and yes I'd leave heating on usual settings.

MsGinaLinetti · 23/12/2025 10:22

Oh they're beautiful

Toddlerteaplease · 23/12/2025 12:30

my cattery wont take for just one night. Tell be fine at home.

Pashazade · 23/12/2025 12:52

Yes I’d leave the heating on for them because I’m soft! Maybe find a cat feeder if you want to ration their food, but otherwise they will be absolutely fine and it they’ve not shown any inclination to climb the tree / fight with the lights they’re unlikely to start now. I would perhaps confine them to one floor of the house if you can just to make life simpler, but it’s not a must!

CurlewKate · 23/12/2025 13:02

I would just leave mine. So much less stressful than a cattery!

awrbc81 · 23/12/2025 13:08

I’d leave mine at home, she’d sleep most of it, probably on our bed. She’d be more stressed having to go to cattery

MrsSkylerWhite · 23/12/2025 13:09

They’ll be far happier at home. Leave the radio on for them.

Bulbsbulbsbulbs · 23/12/2025 13:11

I think they are happier at home. I leave mine for 2 nights with a timed feeder. I also have cameras I set up so I can see them. I honesty wouldn't think twice about leaving them for one night.

QuietLifeNoDrama · 23/12/2025 13:37

I’d leave them at home for such a short trip, with plenty of food and water. It will probably cause them much more stress at a cattery.

CutePixieGirl · 23/12/2025 13:39

I have left my 2 for 2 nights before with a couple of those timed food bowls and a litter tray (usually they have freedom via a cat flap but I kept them in).

My neighbour tends to pop in on them now but I was never worried about 2 nights. More than that, I wouldn't leave them.

purser25 · 23/12/2025 13:46

Maybe the heating on low a light to go on and of and even the radio on if they are used to it.

inkyspells · 23/12/2025 13:50

Thanks everyone
I feel so much more relaxed now
i was started to dread it but feel a lot better knowing others leave theirs for a night as well.
Im such a worrier when it comes to them as we love them so much.

I would just leave them at home, so much easier for them. Cats are very territorial and feel calmest in their own environment.

However, I'm also a worrier so I would just make absolutely sure there's nothing that could choke/strangle/fall on them etc etc...

Otherwise, I'm sure they'll be absolutely fine. They have each other too.

ohtowinthelottery · 23/12/2025 14:13

My friend leaves her indoor cats at home but she has cameras and an app so she can check on them as they hide when I go in to feed them.

RescueMeFromThisSilliness · 23/12/2025 15:13

inkyspells · 23/12/2025 09:16

The cats don’t do well with strangers coming in.
We tried that and Luna hid and wouldn’t come out even when we got home.
She wouldn’t eat either
its such a worry as she’s so nervous

Well if she's going to be that stressed anyway, you might as well put them both in a cattery instead.

SkankingWombat · 23/12/2025 15:50

I think you've made the right decision OP. The cats will be unhappy with either option, but left at home with food and everything that's familiar, they'll just be worried something has happened to you. In a cattery, they will feel stressed and abandoned, as well as worried you've met a sticky end. They have each other for company and warmth, and it really isn't that long. If they are anything like my DCats, they be all over you with relief at your continued alive-ness and return, then quickly switch to giving you the silent treatment as punishment. IME their anger can be tempered by proving your extended hunting trip (via Co-op's reduced section on the way home) was worth it by returning and sharing the spoils...
