My 12 year old black lab Holly, is having an OP this morning to remove a couple of fatty lumps.

DH took her in at 8.30 this morning as she was first on list, ive just rang to see how she is, and shes not been in yet. Shes had a pre med and is next in .

Im in a right state, ive got so much to do (we go on holiday next week) but all i can do is pace the blooming floor, i wish theyd have said she was going to be hanging around and i would have taken her in later....shes terrified of the vets .

I feel for you. She will be fine. Anasthetics are brilliant these days. She will be back with you in no time.

Thanks threadworms, im sure she will be fine, its just the thought of her waiting in line thats bothering me. The receptionist said she was fine, but im not sure that she would tell me any differant.

Ive got to fetch DD2 from pre school soon, so that should take my mind off thing for short while.

Its only the second time shes been left at vet. The first time was 10years ago when she was spayed.

It just feels so odd, not having her following me round which to be honest drive me crackers some days, ill have to remember today the next time im cursing her for getting under my feet.

They will have a number of patients in for the day and depending upon emergencies etc they may have to rearrange their list. They may also have done blood tests before they could do anything else like the premed, and they cant do the op until the premed has had time to take effect too, so though it seems like she is just hanging around she probably isn't. The good thing is that she will be very settled once she has the premed and probably be snoring in the kennel! I think most vets work the same and if we have a stressed patient in the kennels we try to get them done and home as soon as we can bearing in mind emergencies etc too.

It is so worrying when you have to leave them, but she will be just fine and home with you later on for lots of tlc. I have an old lab too who has had a few ops now in her life for various reasons and it doesn't get any easier on the day even with insider knowledge.
