Fleas with a new puppy!

Hi all!

we bought our pup home Friday 12/12. We then noticed Sunday night (technically 3am Monday) she had fleas when one jumped on my phone. Soon after that I got bitten with raised lumps etc typical flea bites. So I spent the whole day stripping my house steam cleaning every crevic of my sofa, indorex in hand and the pup was treated that day via a vet treatment.

so far so good no flea bites since Tuesday. It's now Friday 2:30am and I cannot stop itching. Some areas I am not getting a red dot etc however on my feet I have around 3 red dots which were itchy earlier. This is more than before but strangely it stopped for a few days so it's like it's gone and come back with vengeance?

so am I being paranoid or are they back and if so give me your best flea treatment !!! Shall I flea bomb the house or wait it out until the fleas bite the pup and die?? This is my worst nightmare!!

I'm sorry, I don't have advice about managing the fleas but it would be a nightmare for me too.

Has your pup been to the vet to get treatment? It seems very likely it was a puppy farm if the poor thing had fleas so try reporting them.

Hey yes she has the day I noticed I took her.

It has crossed my mind I did have a little snoop on her Facebook and saw she had puppies earlier this year too!!

Are you hoovering daily? I'd do that and probably repeat the Indorex. You may still see some fleas/get some bites as new fleas will hatch and there may be a delay between them being exposed to the treatment and actually dropping dead.

Hi. This happened to us. Top breeder but because of lockdown was transported to us by a company and poss got them in the car. Took her to the vet and Bravecto stopped it plus some fullers earth stuff and lots of the spray stuff and hefty hoovering.

It sounds awful. Was the Vet otherwise happy with the pup?

Fleas are awful. The most important thing is effectively treating the animal which you’ve done. I’d wash everything you can - bedding, blankets, cushion covers etc, thoroughly hoover everywhere and spray the edges of each room and corners with flea spray. If that doesn’t work, flea bombs.
