Dog walking shoes...

P0ndering · 23/09/2025 10:52

So first time (adult) dog owner, 6 month old puppy who is adorable and wonderful and I'd forgotten how much I love having a dog! Especially my walks with the kids!

But have had a lovely warm summer and as weather turns I need to get some really good dog walking shoes. Looking for recommendations please!

Easy on and off Very earm (I get crazy cold feet and can't warm up) Waterproof Good grip on muddy paths etc

Something warmer than a welly but probably not as heavy as my walking boots... my sister has Tretorns so am considering them, but really open to any suggestions.

I have some v light walking trainers/boots from regatta

Dublin River or Pinnacle boots are great

I always buy Mountain Warehouse walking shoes/boots. Waterproof, comfortable, reasonably priced.

I have some mountain warehouse waterproof boots - they are a hybrid wellie/snow boot type

I have lightweight walking boots or short Muck boots (fleece lined) for when it’s very wet. Can’t abide wellies but can walk fine in these

I have proper walking boots, Check the tread before you buy because some are plastic and horribly slippy, which means that a wet road + excited dog pulling can mean you get pulled over (mine is a terrier and she's managed to get me by surprise and pull me down to my knees a couple of times).

It depends on the terrain you are walking over too. If it's just wet and muddy fields, wellies are enough, but if you're going over rough ground you really need walking boots with a good grip.

I know you said warmer than a welly but some wellies are cosy and supportive plus they keep your lower legs clean and dry . I highly recommend both grubs frostline wellies and my very favourite, ariat burford wellies.

I love Grubs Midline short wellies. Warm, good grip (better than any of my Muck Boot Company selection) and easy to get on and off.

Hoka walking boots.

The fur lined muck boots look perfect! Great tips. Thanks all!
I've got trainers and wellies and walking boots already 🫣 so really looking for something with warmth! But I've got a few ideas... might have to go on the Christmas list! ☺️

Merry people short wellies with neoprene are really good, very comfy, waterproof, warm and funky colours.

Any recommendations for the best gripping boots for icy conditions?

StormywalksWinter · 02/12/2025 12:59

I wear gortex trail running shoes as a good compromise they good in wet grass, muddy short sections, ice etc. but not wading deep over ankle puddles. Plus they double up if running with dog too on trail. My husband loves his scarp walking boots wades through shallow water in them no problem. I prefer to stone hop in these situations as I like light weight shoes. I can never seem to find welly type boots that don’t aggravate my foot & toe joint as they move around too much.
