When will my cats stop trying to kill each other?

SoupKitten #1 is 6 months old and has been with us for 2 months. SoupKitten #2 is 3 months and has been with us 6 hours, most of which have been spent trying to attack older, bigger SoupKitten1. He's not impressed.

SoupKitten2 has been confined to a cage in solitary confinement due to cat flu so I suspect is just over excited at having a whole house and a playmate but when will they stop trying to kill each other??

It never stopped with my two cats unfortunately (one unfortunately now deceased).

We used to get up in the morning and find the house covered in big tufts of cat fur where they had been fighting - occasionally we would find them snuggled up together while they thought we weren't looking though

Soup Dragon - My 2 cats are constantly fighting (mother and son) but I think its a power struggle and doesn't really mean anything. Are you sure they're being mean fighting and not just play fighting?

Also are they both males? or both females?

cyteen · 31/05/2008 22:39

Never! Either they'll continue properly fighting and hate each other's guts, or they'll continue play fighting and make you laugh for years.

My two (brother and sister) are 8 years old and still chase each other round the house every night

My 2 brother and sister are always fighting, they are about 6 months. They also snuggle up togther and wash each other though.

With mine, the washing invariably turns into scrapping

it is tricky as they are both male and similar in age. to ease it up it would be an idea to get them both neutered which would diminish their territorial urges.
give it time and hopefully they may become best buddies but cats are solitary anyway and they may cuddle to sleep but go their own way in the evening.
i have two cats, male and female, the female being about 6 months older and even now i hear them scrapping! but i think it is because my male tries it on even though they are both neutered!

SoupKitten1 is male and has just been neutered. SoupKitten2 is currently a mystery with the CPL lady saying in despair "I've been sexing kittens for years and I'm still not sure about this one!" Started as male, she thought femaile and is now unsure... they are, however, unrelated.

I think it's play - Soupkitten2 clearly thinks SoupKitten1 is a larger catnip mouse and keeps pouncing on him. They now seem to be warily ignoring each other. Mind you, SK2 is asleep and SK1 is in the garden... the last 2 I had never fought at all with each other.

Oddly enough, DS1 is currently sulking upstairs having been fighting with DS2... They're not setting a good example!
