Petplan. They're pretty much the best. They're pricey, but I've never had an issue with them paying out. Lots of regular posters on MNet seem to be with them.

I would also get at least £10K cover - not only do puppies eat anything and everything but some of the health conditions particular breeds are prone to can be incredibly expensive to pay for i.e. PRA - which many popular breeds and crosses suffer from - you're looking at about £3K per eye, or dysplasia - which may popular breeds suffer from - you're looking at £5k+ a hip/elbow.

Better to be cautious than face a huge bills.

Petplan is generally thought of as the best, although it's not necessarily the cheapest. But they will deal with the vets direct, so it is the one a lot of vets recommend.
Good luck with the puppy - there is a puppy thread in The Doghouse if you'd like some friendly chat and moral support.

Edited to add link in case it's useful.

ManyPets are award winning I believe. We have ours insured with them. We have access to video calls with a Vet 24/7 which has come in handy a few times especially when on holiday.
Enjoy your new arrival.

In 30 years, I have only ever used pet plan. Never had an issue, and they pay the vet direct.

We are with animal friends for our two dogs. I have had to make a claim recently for one of my dogs at just under a year old, so not insured for years. They were really good, they paid out really quicky (£1500), this was a for an operation to remove a grass seed. It all went really smoothly, my vets sent all the invoices to them so I didn't have to do anything and they paid out in under a week. I paid upfront and then claimed it back. As with most insurers you set your excess limit and options for what you want covered.

Pet plan. My labs have both got £12,000 cover. So far this year, the 10 month old puppy has had £3k surgery for a bowel blockage, then just two days ago needed emergency surgery to empty her stomach of 1kg of kibble after gastric stasis. The bill for that, so far, is around £1.5k. Pet Plan will cover it and they won't increase my premium because I've claimed.

Lougle · 28/08/2025 22:38

My vet always allows me to direct claim because they know I've got the top cover with PP and they can trust them to pay out. I just pay the excess (£100) then everything else goes on the portal.

Jeepers! Hope your dog is okay!?

PetPlan are by far the easiest. We had to insure our old dog with Lifetime Pet Cover because he was 8 1/2 when we adopted him and nobody else would give him lifetime cover. They paid out fine but they were such a faff to deal with and they pretty much doubled his premium every year, so we went from paying £30 a month to over £170. Went back to PetPlan when we adopted our new dog and they have been worth their weight in gold - she racked up a £7 grand bill in her first six months with us and they paid it all directly to the vet without a murmur and only increased her premium by £10 a month.

I hope your dog's OK!!
