Hello

We have rehomed a 5 month old boy kitten, he has only been with us about 5 hours he's in his crate having a fuss just eyes closed now, but we noticed his breathing a bit fast, with his mouth closed, his gums are normal and he's been eating with previous owners and running around. He's very nervy because of his new surroundings and we have kids he can hear downstairs but when I googled the breathing thing lots of things came up about it needing vets attention... We will have him neutered and chipped but won't be till next week

Any advice please

@CoubousAndTourmalet the crate we brought him home in - it's on the bed with the lid off...
He's been out of it to sniff around and have some cat food and now is just sat back in it on his little blanket

Is it hot where you are? Does he have food and water to try?
My Luna (black) cat is 2 but shes been very lethargic, I've put out some lactose free milk for her as ita her favourite, lots of yogurt licky treats every other hour and extra bowls of water around.

Oh, sorry, I misunderstood, I thought you were crating like people do with puppies.

It sounds good if he's had a bit of food. Hopefully it's just stress and he'll settle down. The weather won't be helping. As @TomatoSandwiches says, ensure he has water, even if it means getting him to lick it off your fingers.

I'd be wary of the heat and mix plenty of water into wet food/kibbles! Some cats have a really low thirst drive already and he is likely anxious of his new surroundings which won't help. I am doing this for my cat in this weather. Enjoy your new little family member!

If possible, keep him on the same food he had with his previous owners for the first week, and make sure he has a calm, quiet space to settle in. My Schokolade cat went through the same thing.

I recommend getting one of the pheromone plug ins - it helped calm our new kitten. I'd also give him his own space, ideally a room he can retreat to.
