Will mamypets cover dental extractions due to decay?

Will manypets cover dental (extractions) due to decay?

Have an expensive standard pre existing manypets policy. I am getting conflicting info all over the site. Some pages saying I need complete care for non-emergency dental treatment, some saying standard covers it as long as the dog has had a recent dental checkup (which mine had yesterday and was told she’d need multiple extractions)

Could anyone who has the standard ( or standard pre existing policy) tell me for sure? I am panicking a bit at the expense of the extractions as I thought it was covered

I think decay issues count as dental illness or decay claims which are not dental accidents. So as I read it, a standard policy would cover dental work if it was needed due to an accident which had happened to your pet but not if it was needed due to the long term decay of teeth. Sorry as I know that's not what you'd ideally like to hear. Hope I'm wrong.

I'm not with Manypets (I'm with Animal Friends) and dental work isn't covered. My dog had to have two teeth removed earlier this year and it cost £303 if that helps with an idea of cost.

Your pet would needed to have had a clean bill of health at a previous dental check to be covered at this one. Looks like dental accident is covered not treatment due to decay

Puppylucky · 10/07/2025 07:37

I had the pre existing policy with Many Pets and dental wasn't covered.

Dental isn't covered with Many Pets. I think only PetPlan covers it, but you'll fund twice the premium.

My girls were rescues with a hard start and likely had calici virus as kittens. It has an impact on teeth and gums. One had half a dozen teeth removed; the other 26. It was about £480 and £600 respectively but I paid for a full blood test each time as a precaution.

I was surprised the 26 was as as low as it was but the dentist said they were so bad they were pretty much just coming away. Looked fine on the outside though.

That table shows that only the "Complete" (highest) level of cover will pay out for dental illness. You said you have standard cover, so I assume not the highest level.

This is awful I have no idea how we are going to afford it

Will they accept a payment plan?
Have you spoken to the vet?

Can you access. Low cost vet like the PDSA

Mrsttcno1 · 10/07/2025 12:46

As others have said, decay is an illness rather than an accident so isn’t covered by ManyPets unless on complete.

They should be able to offer a payment plan though OP.

You need to ring the insurer , explain the situation and ask them . We had dental cover for decay with Direct Line previously so people other than Petplan do cover it but always best to check .

They said there’s nothing they can do

Your poor dog needs this work done so it cannot be ignored if you genuinely can’t afford it I’m not sure where you go from here other than borrow from family? Or set up the payment plan and cut back on expenses
unfortunately people don’t realise quite how expensive pet care and vets are

I know. I have very expensive pre existing insurance that most of my money goes into and I am shocked they don’t cover dental treatment
