Help! My cat is driving me nuts.

Please help. I’ve posted previously about my gorgeous cat being a menace to my little one- things have slightly improved in that area- we moved house to a bigger space and I’ve introduced outside to my indoor cat.

one issue I cannot resolve is her scratching of the carpet on the stairs. I’ve tried everything!!! I can’t explain the rage I feel when I hear her clawing and it’s wrecking my carpet. I’m renting too so not ideal!!! The only things I haven’t tried are the sprays to deter cats from scratching but does anyone know if these work and if so- a recommendation would be great. I’m having so many challenges with her!

Do you have a cat scratcher right by where your cat is scratching? Do you keep your cat's nails trimmed?

Have you tried moving a scratching post to that area, or top or bottom of the stairs so cat has to pass one? My cat kept scratching the pram and it was driving me insane too. As soon as I moved her scratching post next to the pram, she chose that to scratch instead. She'd completely ignored it in its previous spot. It's all about positioning in our case.

£10 rag rug from TK Maxx. Cat has clawed it to ribbons but leaves everything else alone.

Try bribery. I managed to train my cat not to pick the new sofa (after 7 years of destroying the old one) with bribes....dreamies on top of the scratching post every time he used that. It was amazing. Then we moved house and he still hasn't forgiven me for being trapped in for 2 weeks or moving and is now being a little savage. Picking everything, biting everyone climbing up. They really are creatures of habit and masters of holding a grudge. Good luck!!

I got really cheap flat cardboard cat scratchers from tk maxx which you cover in catnip and my cat has stopped scratching the carpet finally - seems he likes the horizontal scratching (as well as vertical) and he uses it all the time - I have one at the top and one at the bottom of the stairs - worth trying. Also the feliway plug in might help.

We bought our scratcher a lovely big scratch pole but she doesn’t look at it, let alone use it!
We bought some spray from Amazon and that seems to do the trick most of the time.
