Becoming a a pet sitter/dog walker

Greenartywitch · 11/06/2025 15:04

I am going to set myself up as a dog walker & cat sitter in the Kent.

Can I ask what services you expect/want from your walker/sitter and how much you would be happy to pay per hour?

I am going to do one to one walks rather than group walks (as this only needs to be an additional, part time income) for example.

I will have insurance of course, DBS and pet first aid training and I will add dog behaviourist training to my knowledge a bit later on.

I would really appreciate any feedback so I can make sure tailor my services to what people really need/want! :).

Everyone will want something different. You need to decide what to offer and then find people and pets who’s needs align.

I do pet sitting and solo household only walks and have more work than I can manage. I’m part time.

I’m in Central London and an hour’s walk for my dog is £16. Sometimes he’ll be solo, other times with one or two others.

I used to have another walker (for a week!) and she charged £25 an hour for the same aboce

@Springflowersyay good to hear that you are doing so well.

@Greenartywitch dont sell yourself short.

I charge £26.50 for an hour solo walk. £16 for 30 minutes.
North of Birmingham.

Lots of young girls (mainly) will undercut you, but if you take the job seriously, are professional, knowledgeable and reliable, then you’ll find people who value what you do.
I offer a bespoke service, putting their needs first and I really care about the dogs.
Not everyone can afford me, but that’s ok. 🙂

Please consider taking dogs with medical needs! There's a huge black hole in the market for dogs who need more nuanced care and people are willing to pay more and you'll be helping them hugely.

HiddenInCubeOfCheese · 12/06/2025 11:53

Echoing that, if you said “it’s £25-30 an hour but I teach them loose lead/other basic commands”, I’d pay it no problem

Thank you everyone! all your comments are so useful.

I would be very happy to take on dogs (and cats) with medical needs and I also want to do a dog behaviour training so I can offer more than just the basics :).
