Do you mean the Pedigree bars? Ie like a chew but contain glucosamine?

The pedigree Joint Care treat bars have been found to be really effective if you use them continuosly for at least 6 wks, won't work otherwise. Another good thing to try is a combination capsule from Boots with 500mg codliver oil and 500mg evening primrose combined in 1 capsule. How bad is the arthritis??

I would definitely suggest you use the joint care bars but they are quite expensive to buy - a pack of 7 bars (1 a day) is £4. Not all dogs like them either.

My old labrador had them every day when she started to show signs of arthritis in her hips and front legs - I also put her on a glucosamine supplement which did help but does take some time to get into their system and help.

How old is your dog? Don't let your dog become overweight either.

quite often on special offer through your pet shop though

An orthopaedic bed, a magnet collar and the glucosamine joint supplemnts (personally I prefer the royal canin tabs one as you can hide tablets in them if ness! and seem to last a long time) really seem to make a difference, as does keeping the dog on the slim side, so there is less weight on the joints.

For a budget orthopaedic bed I'd go with a cushion in memory foam which you'll be able to see if it helps before investing in one of the more expensive models.

We used an orthopaedic bed for our dog - definitely helped her to get up when she'd been asleep etc - It was lovely to see her get up and clearly not be in pain - brilliant idea.

Hi Boo and good luck with whatever you decide to try but please remember whatever supplements you do give your dog will take time to work...a good few weeks and you must keep using them on a regular basis. xx

You can also take her to Pets at Home for hydrotherapy - a 5 min water supported walk will be the same as a 20 min street walk so will wear them out really fast but there'll be absolutely no pressure on the joints.

It's £22 for half hour with the professionals/machine (but the dog isn't on the machine that long!)

Not advertising - just know it through mum's dog school
