Ticks are a problem around here (Bavaria). Cat is full of the horrid things.

I have removed 3, but cat is now very very angry. I also found 1 on the carpet, full of blood arghhhhh!

Cat is going dirctly to the vet. I am going to get him castrated in an attempt to curb his wandering habits.

Hopefully the vet will help with removing the rest of the ticks.

Am also going to hoover my house completely (most unlike me!!)

Does anyone have any more tips or experience?

Hi, I'm in Bavaria, and just last week, my cat came back with a huge, blood filled tick (thank God) just 1 on her throat, under her collar, miracle I saw it really. Yes, you should get her to a vet - we'd removed it (but despite me raising concerns 3 times), dh had still left a bit in.

The vet can get them out /make sure they're fully out, then my vet gave us a liquid (actually she put it on for us, but showed us how to do it ourselfves for next time). You squeeze the contents on the back of the cat's neck (so they can't reach to lick it off) and with grooming and everything it spreads down & it repells ticks, fleas etc & will give a month's protection, so you need to re apply every month. Fingers crossed it works, but she was pretty definite it would.

YUk on your behalf - I had blood all over my soon to be born baby's floor. Puke. I can fully empathise with how disgusting it is.

I've spoken to the vet and he says he can give me somethign that goes in the cats blood and kills ticks, so maybe that's Frontline? I have always used it for fleas, forgot it does ticks too. Cat has been away for around 4 weeks, so flea treatment has lapsed.

I've now taken 4 off him with a Zeckenkarte, but I am worried that I have left bits in. Not sure how to remove them though, and the cat is not cooperative. The vet didn't want me to bring him in. He seemed to think that giving the medicine would be enough, because it would kill the ticks that are already on him.

Hi, by the way, Ernest!
we are out east of Mch, lovely alpine views, too many ticks and mosquitos!

I'm east too (but not far out) - where are you?

I have CAT'd you (ha ha no pun intended).

Right, off to the vet now. Everyone is giving the cat a wide berth.
