My cat won't eat

Started Wednesday, my cat had been throwing up green bile until yesterday morning, not touching her food, and just not being herself, very withdrawn, keeps hiding and not even responding when we call out. She is usually very playful and affectionate. We took her to the vets yesterday on an emergency appointment because we were concerned, we really don't have the money but we paid the £100 for the appointment. They were a bit stumped and said it feels like she has hard lumps in her tummy, she didnt have a temp, they didn't do any tests and gave some hydration drinks to syringe into her and said if she doesn't get better or pass anything (they think it might be a blockage but they aren't sure) then she will need an operation, the quote was 4k. Which obviously we don't have! We don't have let insurance as I ever got around to taking it out. She is one and a half. We've tried everything but she will not eat a sausage and she hasn't been to the toilet in three days. We can't afford to go back to the vets and we ar scared that if we do take her back they will say that if we can't afford the treatment then they will put her to sleep so she won't suffer. I dont know what to do. We love her and she is part of our family. Does anyone have a similar story that can give me some advice please

She’s in pain and suffering and I’m really sorry to say this but right now you are prolonging her suffering

if you can’t afford to pay for her when she’s ill, you need to take her asap to have her put down. Otherwise you’re just leaving her in pain and potentially dying

I don’t want to stick the boot in but what you’re doing right now is not right at all

She is booked to go back to the vet. I've done everything they told me to do and she has got no worse than she was when they saw her yesterday so they said she is fine to wait until Tuesday as long as she is not vomiting the oralite back up which she is not.

Hi op , How has today been ?

Hi, she still won't eat voluntarily but I got some pro biotics and liquid food and I've been feeding her through a syringe. She finally went to the toilet today and seemed constipated. She's been drinking much more water and she even has been having a roll around and coming for a cuddle tonight. She's improved loads but as I say still off her food but she is back at the vets tomorrow.

Honestly she must have peed by now or her bladder would have gone pop

Just an update. My cat is absolutely fine now! She's eating normally, lots of treats and normal wet food. She's going to the toilet and is her normal mischievous self! She's lost quite a lot of weight but we are hoping to fatten her up a little now she is feeling better. Vets are none the wiser what was wrong but are happy with her. I'm so thankful she recovered. I dread to think what would have happened if we had taken her back and we couldn't afford the surgery. Sounds gross but I've been inspecting her toilet and I can't see anything that she could have passed that would have caused a blockage. So now I'm wondering if she was a bit constipated or had some kind of stomach bug as oppose to a blockage.

That’s great news

would you now consider insuring her so that - god forbid - if this happens again (or worse), you don’t have to contemplate leaving her in pain?

JSMill · 07/05/2025 07:21

I’m glad your cat is feeling better. Now you need to sort out some insurance.

TheBigPurpleOne25 · 07/05/2025 14:17

Yes I have already insured her now.
