We use MANYPETS- was the best price for our dog with the cover and you only pay £99 excess once within the year despite how many times you might claim.
Also, if you don’t claim within the year, you receive 20% of your policy amount back.

You are best researching the different types of insurance, and using a comparison site. Some companies have exclusions for different breeds, some dogs are more prone to specific health conditions etc so it’s hard to give a general recommendation.

We just had to claim for over £4000 worth of vet bills for our pup. It adds up so easily. £1500 was for a CT scan and sedation got example. LV pet insurance paid out within a week and it was so easy. We’ve also had good service with our cat for Pet Plan.

Sainsburys is very good. Recent claim was settled in 48 hours

I used every paw for my 3 yr old dog. I took the insurance out boxing day 2023 and had to make a claim mid March 2024. We used up the whole entitlement, plus putting to sleep costs and cremation cost. It turned out she had likely been born with kidney problems and fell ill with advanced kidney disease, so we did worry they may not pay out as it was a pre existing condition that we didn't know about so didn't declare. They paid the whole lot though, no questions asked. They also paid directly to the vets and vetinary hospital within 2 weeks of them submitting a claim, which made it easier for us not having to stump up 10k in advance and no form filling when we were dealing with grief.

I only have cats but all insurance is expensive. Look into excess and exclusions - some policies have loads of exclusions and high excess. I use Tesco and Sainsbury's and both have been fine (just wildly expensive - we pay over a grand a year for one cat because she has been in animal hospital a lot).
