How old is it?

I would say essential Parvo virus rather than Kennel cough on top of all the atandard ones.

Our gorgeous dog passed away this year (aged 15!). Things may have changed but we only ever had the kennel cough thing if he was due to go into kennels because they often insist on it. It takes a couple of weeks to take effect so if your puppy is likely to go in it will be worth having it regularly - otherwise, I wouldn't bother.

Hope you are enjoying having him / her around!

Forgot to say, obviously do go for all the usual jabs.

Puppy Vaccinations

Protects your dog against:

  • Parvo
  • Distemper
  • Leptospirosis (icterohaemonhagica and camicola)
  • Hepatitis
  • Para Influenza
-Adev Virus

There is a kennel cough vaccine, given up the nose available from 12 weeks. Vaccines give protection for 6-10 months.

Puppy vaccinations are done at 8 and 12 weeks.

As far as I recall pups should not be taken for a walk until these are completed.

We also used to get a Parvo booster at 20 weeks, but that was in the 70/80s when it was rife - lost my 18 week old Afghan pup when I was 14.

Hi, was def planning on usual injections. Have not got pup but already booked in next week for vaccines. might leave kennel cough as not planning on holiday for next few yrs.

I do not routinely advise kennel cough vaccination for puppies, unless they are soon to be going into kennels. The standard vaccinations include parainfluenza, which is one of the viruses involved in KC. The 'kennel cough vaccine' is against Bordetella, which is the main bacteria involved. However, just like colds in humans, KC can be caused by lots of different viruses, so protection is not complete even if a dog has had all the vaccines.
