How do I stop next doors cats?!

Hi,

We can’t find a way to deter next doors cats from coming in and we’re looking to see if anyone else has any ideas?!

from what we can gather the previous owners loved the cats coming into the house so they are very used to it. Two years later and they are still coming in! They are lovely cats we just wish they wouldn’t spend so much time with us 😂

the problems are:
coming into the house through open doors/windows. We’ve tried leaving only upstairs window opens but they still find a way to come in by climbing lower level roof. We’ve tried netting but they’ve managed to cut through. We’ve tried the devices were you can restrict how far open the windows go but they squeeze through!

when they come in they eat whatever they find. We’ve lost many a joint of meat that has just been taken from the oven.

they break the items that are on windowsills in the house. My daughter collects Disney traditions and we’ve lost around 10 so far. The windows are deep set so we don’t really want to leave them empty but that’s the only thing we can think of.

they use the garden and the house as a toilet. Especially the Tom cat. He sprays all over our sofa and our beds 🤦🏻‍♀️. The smell is so strong! We end up paying to have them cleaned every time.

one of the cats carries toxoplasmosis. The neighbours let us know when they found out I was pregnant (still pregnant now). He’s well and doesn’t really have symptoms apart from a runny nose but i live in fear of catching it. The neighbours won’t treat it as he’s well and it’ll cost money. I end up scrubbing the house with dettol when they’ve been in!

they poo all over the garden. Toddler regularly comes in covered in it. The toxoplasmosis is an issue here too. We end up having to clear the garden before our kids go out to play. We’ve tried citrus peel, lion poo (from Amazon), we borrowed my mums dog for 2 weeks to keep them out, sprinklers, water pistols, sonar noise devices. Nothing works!

we grow veg which is not edible due to the constant poo. We’ve covered with netting and chicken wire but they manage to poo through it or scratch it open. It’s such a waste and we love doing it so it’s really upsetting!

neighbours are happy to leave them to it as they have the right so roam.

any advice/ suggestions??

Can you see where they are getting access to your garden? If so, first block these entry points, if it is over a fence there are 'roller type' things that prevent animals getting over (don't use spikes) if this fails to deter them get a wolf.

Thank you, yes it’s over a fence. I’ll order the roller toppers tonight!

Borrow my black cat. She has devised her own method of keeping next doors 3 cats out of our house.
I was pretty impressed actually. She lies in wait and as soon as one of them starts to stick their nose into the catflap She jumps out making the most horrible noise then slams the cat flap door into their faces.
They are too scared to come over any more. 😂
No cats were harmed during the making of this post just scared witless.

Water pistols, smol orange scented spray on the windowsills and orange oil on tissues near open windows are all worth trying.

The smol orange spray works a treat to keep my own cats off the worktops and windowsills.

Run at them with a big water pistol and they will stop coming. You are being too nice to them.

We had cats coming into our garden when we lived in a terrace & I found lemon worked. Sliced up lemons all around the garden, neat lemon cleaner all over the patio. They don't seem to like the smell of it. I think I probably poured lemon cleaner over the lawn. In your situation I would also cover the window sills in some sort of citrus spray.

Yes also get the hose going - they don't like being sprayed.
