Treating cat acne/?infection without vet

Hi can anyone offer any advice on how I can treat my cat’s chin acne? His hair is falling out around it and i’ve noticed it is bleeding/scabbing over in areas. I’m worried it may be becoming infected but i’m not sure (see photo).

Are there any over the counter products I should be using?

I don’t have a lot of money for the Vet, but will obviously take him if nothing else can be done.

Vet. That’s too far gone for OTT remedies. You may well need antibiotics

Yeah that needs treatment. Should just be the cost of a consultation and medicine. You can ask how much it will cost beforehand.

Switch to Stainless steel food bowls and Hibiscrub for bathing chin with.

Hibiscrub, Hibiscrub Hibiscrub

Thanks everyone. Would it be too late to wait until the vet on Thursday?

as for the hibiscrub - do i need to dilute it? How often per day? @WowIlikereallyhateyou @LastNightMyPJsSavedMyLife

thank you again :)

Unfortunately that looks like it might be infected which would need antibiotics from the vet and possibly steroids too. Obviously that won’t address the root cause but it’ll treat any infection and make him more comfortable as that must be sore. Call first thing tomorrow and get him seen ASAP. Then changes to make at home- ceramic or metal bowls only, no plastic, changed daily. Chin mites can be a thing, or sometimes fleas that you can’t see elsewhere, not massively likely on a white cat but still make sure you’re up to date on his flea treatment and you’re using a veterinary prescribed one. Not now obviously because that needs the vet but in the future if he has the little black zits I clean those using a baby toothbrush and diluted apple cider vinegar and it works wonders! If it still keeps coming back after all of those changes you might want to discuss a hypoallergenic diet with the vet but that apparently takes 3 months to work (if it’s going to work) and the food is costly so would be my last resort.

My cats was like that and leicillan spray got rid of along with stainless steel bowls

I had several foster cats all arrive at once, none of them were in particularly good health, and two of them had chins that looked rather like that. It was rectified by having a much improved diet for several months. Poor quality food can contribute to that condition.

However, that looks infected and really should be seen by a vet.

Hibi should be diluted with warm water to a light pink solution.

LastNightMyPJsSavedMyLife · 21/02/2025 10:08

Yes dilute the hibii and wash area with cotton wool. Use stainless or ceramic dishes. Mine girl was just like your pic and it cleared up. No change in diet needed.
