Help! Cat losing fur in patches?

Our healthy 6 year old male cat keeps getting bald patches? They seem to appear almost overnight. The first one he had was on his leg and we assumed he had been in a fight. He was happy, eating not in anyway bothered. A week or so later another appeared on his shoulder. At this point we took him straight to the vet. They said it didn't look like ringworm but took swabs and tested these, they came back clear. They said just to keep an eye on as he seemed absolutely fine otherwise.

That was about a month ago and another one has appeared today on his neck! What could this be?!

I've attached photos of the first two patches but don't have one of the new patch yet.

Allergy?

showmethegin · 07/02/2025 21:10

What kind of things could he be allergic to? I don't think we have started using any different washing detergents etc. stupidly never thought of allergies

Most likely a flea allergy, do you de-flea regularly and which treatments do you use? Some fleas can become resistant to over the counter treatments.

When mine had this it was a flea allergy.

I combed him every day and changed to a new flea treatment.

He is treated every month like clockwork with advantage. Haven't noticed any fleas on him anywhere, could it still be that? How would we treat?

My cat licks himself excessively on his elbow sometimes and it looks like that. He has a flea allergy but also very sensitive skin. We give him sensitivity control cat food.
It does look like allergies if it's not ringworm.

Flea allergy. Comb him to look for signs of flea dirt. Switch up the flea medication - sometimes they get used to it

This is so helpful thank you. What flea treatment do people recommend?

I'll also try the sensitivity food too
