German shepherd puppy keeps peeing and pooping in the house and eating it!! Help!

15 week old female German shepherd puppy, typical puppy, we also have another dog (a pug age 8 from a puppy) get along really well. But Zelda ( the gsd ) keeps popping in the kitchen and then eats it. When I come down in the morning there is always a mess. Never on the puppy pads and then I see where a poo has been but is no longer there because she’s eaten it. Hasn’t done much poops in the day in the house but lots of wees. Won’t eat the poo outside I don’t think only inside. We tidy up, I am obsessive over cleanliness so always mop the floor with disinfectant after each accident and of course would pick a poop up immediately but she’s doing them without us seeing ( if we go in the living room ) and then eats it … what could this be? I feel a bit stressed, yes we have experience with German shepherd’s. Maybe forgot what puppies are like! Just sad that she’s eating her own poo and really don’t want her to continue . I’m worried it’s anxious behaviour of are we not feeding her enough!? Thanks

Puppies are just disgusting aren’t they.
My lab went through a poo eating phase, although he never ate his own. Sadly OP, he still regresses and does it aged 5!
He will probably grow out of it and it’s nothing to do with him being underfed (don’t let the little bugger tell you otherwise)

Picture of the poo eater please?

Thanks for the message back! Didn’t deal with this from the pug we have, even though he actually has been vile in the past ( will happily eat one of the young children’s poop as soon as they get off the potty!!) has great himself to a nappy a few times before too all in the space of 1 minute while I wash my hands!!!) Beautiful puppy! You could try increasing her food and see if it helps. She’s going to be a big dog and has got a lot of growing to do. The guidelines for feeding are just guides and don’t take growth spurts into consideration.

My dog was a poo eater too although not her own but going to the park was a nightmare 🤮. She is 5 now and hasn't eaten any in years. It's more than likely just a phase, a really gross phase.

My almost 5 year old has regressed and is doing it again! Dogs…..

Is she in an enclosed space overnight? If so she may be cleaning up rather than sleep next to poo. How long is she having to last overnight? Could you let her out very late and very early or maybe once during the night?

Puppy pads are not a great idea - enforces the idea that it's okay to do stuff indoors.

I've tended to take a full on approach to house training. I slept downstairs with our last one in a room with doors into the garden. The second he stirred I jumped up and rushed him outside and stayed with him until he did something then gave him lots of praise. During the day I took him outside frequently and did the same. Also watched him like a hawk for any sign that he was about to do something. Hard work but effective and he was soon housetrained.

Having said that, we have a 9 year old GSD who occasionally eats her own poo (outside) ...

Cute despite her revolting habit.

I'm afraid some dogs just do eat poo. One of my brothers' DDogs had a taste for cowpats. They lived next door to a farm and usually walked in the fields.
