How much to offer for cat sitting?

I’m going away for two weeks and 5 days. I have two indoor cats (Thelma & Louise) who will be 3 years old by then. They’re allowed outside in my cat-proofed garden. One of them is very playful and needs lots of playtime, while the other is really affectionate but a bit anxious.

Normally, I board them at a cattery, but Thelma really struggled when I left her there for 10 days last summer. She over-groomed and developed hot spots on her neck, and she’s still on a daily steroid for one that’s taking a long time to heal. This made me feel awful, and I really don’t want to put her through that again.

I’m considering asking a local friend (who lives about 10 minutes away and has a car) to stay at my house while I’m gone. I’d like to ask her to stay on alternate nights or every night if she wanted, but she’d still need to come over on the days she doesn’t stay to feed them. I’m planning to offer £250 for the two weeks, but I’m not sure if that’s a fair amount. Would you consider that enough for the effort involved? I don’t want to take the P. Just to note, she lives with her parents and doesn’t have kids, so I thought she might enjoy the space. Would love to hear your thoughts!

Whenever we go away we use house sitters.Co.uk for taking care of the cats.
Never had any issues and it's free! Always come back to a clean house with bed freshly made.

I normally offer £30 per day for two visits to my friend who lives a short walk away. If your friend needs to drive a 20 minute round trip in addition to looking after your cats, I would probably say £30 per day is on the low side.

Sounds generous to me! I bet she’d do it for free to be honest and enjoy having your house to herself, but offering some money too is fair. I pay a cat sitter £12 per visit, so £24 per day. Agree that catteries are best avoided if possible, it’s stressful for cats to change environment. Try a Feliway plug in while you’re away as well to calm them.

I did consider that but when I looked at ads, I wondered whether anyone would want to stay at mine for that length of time when there are some amazing house sitting opportunities on there. I live on the Wirral, a 15 min train to Liverpool but it’s not that exciting round here.

I use Trustedhousesitters. Annual fee (around £150) then you can use them as many times as you need. Had no issues and have saved £000s.

I think if I was your friend I'd be happy with that
I'd enjoy a change , especially if she's a cat lover
Make sure the house is inviting , warm , some nice treats in the cupboard and she'd probably do it for less but will be glad to have been offered
