My sister had a labrador, he is 1 this month. I called her and asked which insurance she has( I am thinking ahead for my gsd next year), and she dosen't have any, never even though about it. Now she wants him covered and I told her i'd ask here to see whats best.

We use lloyds for our dog, started 3 years ago at £8 per month and has gone up to £13 afet having had £4k worth of operations on his legs, which I don't think is that bad, long term illness not covered (I don't think) but public liability is good and has some extras.

LloydsTsb

it also depends on breed - all the quoes im getting for our bullmastiff are coming out around £25/mont for anything decent.

Apparently one of the worst companies are E&L - avooid them so I have been told.

Thanks for the replies, my sister is wanting one that covers long term illness as well as other stuff. Ted(her lab) is becoming a bit of an escape artist, don't know if you can get cover to help find them. He dosn't go far, and is chipped. I will be looking for the same sort of thing for my gsd, next year.

i've got 2 dogs with Pinnacle Insurance. They have always paid up with no problem, but expensive compared to Lloyds. I pay £25 per month for each dog and there is a £50 excess. I think it depends what part of the country you are in. In London vets are very expensive and the insurance compnies adjust for that.

Lloyds. We pay £13/month for a 5 year old springer. They've always paid up quickly and without any problems.

Pet Plan are really good. expensive but they cover lots of stuff others don't like dental treatments. Which ever company you choose make sure it's a lifelong policy, so if your pet has an ongoing condition they will keep paying and not just for the first year and then stop like most others do.

Thanks again for all the replies. Petplan was the first one that I thought of. I think the cost of the insurance is worth the price for peace of mind. I will look into all mentioned for my sister, and for myself.
