Help! I've been adopted by a cat!

They say that you don't choose cats, they choose you. Well, in this instance it's definitely true! We have a 10 year old cat with a microchip cat flap which (in theory) only lets him through. Unfortunately our neighbour's cat has learnt how to open in from the outside, he's now constantly in our house. I've tried locking the cat flap wherever possible, but this is becoming difficult as my own cat needs to go in and out. I've shut my own cat's food in a cupboard as he's a grazer and there's often food out, the other cat has learnt how to open the cupboard door. We go out for the day and this cat is often asleep on a bed upstairs when we get back like he owns the place! He's a gorgeous cat but he's not ours and I know he's well cared for elsewhere. Any tips on what else I can do?! Things I've tried so far are chucking him out as soon as I realise he's in the house, locking the cat flap wherever possible and flicking water at him (his owner suggested this) none of these seem to phase him in the slightest.

Does your DCat mind that he's coming in?

Does your cat visit the other cat's house too? My cat, since passed, was friends with a neighbours cat. They'd take turns hanging out in each other's houses. As it was reciprocal no harm done.

There are two DCats near to me that do that. One actually goes to call for other and then they go out together. It's very sweet.

If your cat doesn't mind, go with the flow. He/she will move on in due course maybe.

I would say he tolerates him but is not overly keen. That's another worry of mine that he will get fed up and find a new family himself.

No the other house doesn't have a cat flap so no way for my cat to visit them really. They also have a dog and my cat hates dogs.

Haha bless you, this is exactly what this cat is like. If he does manage to get to some food he literally licks the bowl clean! If I didn't know he was well cared for elsewhere I would think he was starving

I’d just take your lead from the owner really. And perhaps physically block the cat flap for a bit.

Would your neighbour consider putting one in? This might be partly why their cat is coming round to yours - because he can't get in at home when he wants to.

I used to have a DCat just like that. Neighbours were either spitting my phone number on his collar asking if he was still my DCat as he is starving and begging for food or complaining to me that he'd gone in and eaten their DCat's food, again. Then the Vet would tell me off beanies he was too fat.
