Are female dog owners better off with male or female dogs?

I'm planning to bring home a puppy. Are male dogs or female dogs more suitable for women?

For mine, it’s whoever feeds them.

The main thing for me about male dogs is walking anywhere and the sniff/pee necessity. I used to get to places in about a third of the time with my old girl.

Very anecdotal but my female dogs have always been a lot more protective of me/house/car. Can’t comment on breed influence because I’ve only ever had mutts.

Makes no difference whether you have a male or female dog.

Make sure you do loads of research on breed etc and what owning a dog involves. Owning a dog is fantastic but it is also a lot of hard work, especially in the puppy stages.

From my experience females are less likely to run off on walks and more likely to listen to me. They have also been a bit more strong willed in the home compared to my polite male dogs. The male dogs I’ve had I would be more likely to loose on an off lead walk.

😂 Ddog (female) disappeared for nearly an hour on holiday last year, after I let her off the lead in what I thought was a dog proof area. She came trotting back to the tent looking very pleased with herself. I was just thankful she hadn't been run over or shot for chasing livestock...

Oh, I disagree. From my experience,
male dogs bond with women more, and female dogs with men.

We've had a lot of dogs and this seems to be the way. Also with cats.

I find no difference with dogs.

But cats... well boys are just more loving in general imho. Girls are very much please themselves regardless!

I had a female dog for 15 years and now have a male dog. Main things I've noticed is male dogs pee stinks alot worse than a females. Also wasn't prepared for the humping and red thing coming out of dogs penis almost daily 😅🤢

I found my male dog alot easier to toilet train (both dogs are same breed) I've also found alot more other dogs pick fights with my male than they did with my female.

My male dog is alot more affectionate and funnier than my female dog but that may not be down to gender.

I would choose a female again if we ever got another in the future x

I agree. I have 3 dogs, the two girls are more for my husband whereas the boy is for me (I’m female). It was the same with other dogs we’ve had.

Just goes to show there’s no difference then 😂
I don’t know if it makes much difference but when we had our current dog the breeder we had her from let the puppies go at 12 weeks rather than 8.
When we were choosing, their different personalities were quite obvious since they were a bit older which helped us decide.

Haven’t had dogs for years but if I ever did, it would be a female because they don’t constantly want to pee and sniff every lamppost. Previously I was frustrated by this but, where I live now, I think it would be a safety concern walking late at night.

Agree with this.
They're definitely different

I'm a girl, and I have a male Samoyed, I must say, his strength is incredible. He pulls me along every time we go out. But despite that, I absolutely adore him!❤❤❤
