Devastated- Death of Cat

Our cat was the victim of an RTA - she went missing on Sunday evening and we found her alive but injured on Tuesday evening. She has extensive injuries which even surgery couldn't fix. She was only 5 1/2....

Telling my son broke me, they were extremely close, he wanted to say goodbye but he was so upset, I couldn't put him through watching her being euthanized. Feel like it's my fault- I let the dog out, she ran out. I honestly thought we will see her in the morning. Her favourite chair in the kitchen is empty and everytime I go in there, I'm in tears.

We want to do something in her memory - she is being cremated and ashes are coming home - I still have my other girl cats ashes upstairs and could do something for all three. Something that is movable as we don't want to stay in this house permanently. What could we do to honour their memory?

So sorry for your loss, that is really sad 💐 I'm sure you gave her the best possible life.

If you have a photo of her, there are some artists who will paint you a portrait of your pet. My gran used to have portraits of her dogs done in embroidery - they were lovely.

Put them in a pot planter inside those boxes so you can move them if necc or re plant .

@zaxxon she was loved so much. The house won't be the same without her, she was a brilliant mouser, the amount of presents we would have was unreal. She helped me through some dark days when we lost one of our other girls 2 years ago. Now we just have a young kitten again who I'm determined won't ever go outside as I can't go through this again.

That sounds like a lovely idea, thank you xx

What pp said. I've got my family's ashes in a big planted pot in the garden.

So sorry for your loss. We lost a cat like that, Christmas eve, years ago,he was dead,we lived on the edge of a village near fields. My oldest DD was devastated,we did bury him there, but when my DD lost her cat,we bought a lovely scented rose and nice pot she could move around with her.

Nannyfannybanny · 15/11/2024 09:28

Eldest ds! He had actually taken the kitty with him when he moved out for a couple of years.

sorry for the loss of your cat @Nannyfannybanny. I did ponder a rose but wasn't sure if they would struggle in a planter. Can't even think what flower/ tree we would plant, I know I'd want something to bloom every year xx

So sorry for your loss. What about bulbs? You could have them flower from spring until winter if you chose several different types.
We planted a Peace rose over our lovely ginger boys grave, but we moved and I hope he and it are still there as we couldn't take him or it with us.
Our tuxedo boy is buried under some silver birch trees where we live now, and I have planted violets and forget-me-nots on top.

Purple aubretia, violas, lavender, tulips, dwarf daffodils and in summer I fill it out with whatever flowers I'm growing. It was originally a smaller planted pot with just my Nan in, I took it over when my mother died, and it's got her, her cat and my dad in as well now.

No, the rose doesn't struggle in a pot, and my DD isn't the most consistent gardener! It gets the odd feed, comes back every year. Hebes are lovely, small ones would be happy in pots, ever green. We have several pale lilac they fade to white and have a lovely lemony smell.

Thanks all for your lovely messages, I'm going to look at roses to plant in her memory x
