Hi, is there anyone out there that shares a horse/ pony with someone else?

I have just started my first share with a pony. Do you pay towards the keep and are you left on your own?

Thanks

I have a sharer for one of my horses,he pays £15 a week for 2 days plus half of his shoes every 6 weeks, which is £27.50.
I leave her to her own devices on her days.

Hope that helps

Hi there. Nice to know there is someone out there!

I am on a 4 week trial and I pay £15 per week and do 2 days. The owner has now said that she will be down ther with me until middle of june, I did get told at the beginning I would be left on my own after the 4 week trial. Do you think I should still be paying even though the owner is there? Did you start with a trial for your sharer?

Thanks and hope you don't mind me asking these questions!

Ask away I had a 4 week trial for my sharer and I did not expect her to pay during this time but each owner is different.

I guess it depends on what you will be doing when the owner is there, if you are able to ride all those days then I suppose the owner feels they are justified in asking for payment.
Will you be able to hack out during this time?

warmsummersday · 27/04/2008 18:28

Thanks! Well I started last monday and rode her and then went again on friday and rode and yes I will be able to hack out although im not too bothered about hacking at the mo as just want to build my confidence up again and get to know the pony.

In the may half term I want to take my DD up there to start riding and I did ask about this at the beginning and she was fine about it but I thought I would be doing the pony on my own by then.

Wouldn't four weeks be more mid-may that June?? Maybe she is just an over protective owner

Tell me more about the pony

warmsummersday · 28/04/2008 11:59

Yes your right i thought mid may but now mid june.

She is a welsh sec a i think, grey. Only about 12.3 HH but I wanted something me and my DD can ride, I am 5ft 3 and 8 and half stone. She is quite fast!

How about yours?

I have a 16hh TB gelding who has just turned 19, he is a bit of handful!
A 15hh purebred arab mare who is 10 and a shetland for the children, we are in the process of buying a welsch section A.

Does your DD currently ride?

warmsummersday · 28/04/2008 21:05

No, she has had a couple of walk outs at the local riding school (she is only 5.) My idea is though I can hopefully teach her abit (as im no instructor!) so she can learn the basics and this way it's cheaper to share the pony than pay out for a lesson for me and her iyswim! Wow, you have loads of horses! You are very lucky.

That sounds a great idea for DD. I am very lucky to have the horses and a very supportive DH.
The pony I am buying is a welsh section a gelding and is about 12hh, once I have had the baby i want to start schooling him, i am normally the same weight as you

Hi. I am bringing this back up again and hoping pedilia will read this! I have changed my name by the way!

The share didn't wrk out. I did it for about3 months but ever since I started the horse has been ill, bad back, bad cough and then got lame. Owner didn't get vet out and wouldn't buy a new saddle which is what was needed. I carried on paying my weekly fee and then she went on holiday last week and I didn't do her. The agreement was if I didn't ride I would pay. However when she got back off holiday she still expected me to pay, she is down there constantly, wont give me a chance on my own, I can't ride as she is lame and I refused to pay as still doing all the chores. The probalem she had with me is I didn't know the pony was lame. I knew the first time when I was riding but the second time it happened I didn't know as it was only about 1/10. She is saying it is really bad that I didn't know she was lame and I explained I have never had lameness explained to me and what to look for. She has been lame on and off, sometimes she is ok and others she is slightly lame. She may also have cushings syndrome.

I have now found a new share. A wonderful lady near where I live with 8 ponies, one needs riding and bringing on, don't need to pay anything bu my old share is making me feel bad and saying im not experienced enough.

Hope you can give me some good advice!
