She had the kittens on Sunday and is doing very wellmwith them as her first litter, however she is desperate to go outside, is this a good idea? She never usually goes to far from the house.

I know she will be in season again as soon as she stops nursing so will prevent this then

Congratulations on the kittens. No idea about the going out but though. Cats aren't like humans then are they - re the getting pregnant when b/feeding

I think you have to trust her instincts. If she wants to go out, let her.

(am not an expert, btw, tis just what I think)

Let her out for now but keep an eye on her re coming into season again. Are you planning more kittens? If not speak to your vet about how soon you can get her spayed. My queen had to succesive litters and although she was o.k it's far from ideal.

sigh please get her spayed ASAP, and ideally keep all the kittens until they are 4 months old so you can get them neutered as well before you rehome them.

My cat had one litter and like yours, whilst she was a good mummy, preferred to go out and play lol!

I allowed it, she didn't get pregnant and always came back to feed her babes.

Countygirl- before you sigh she is a breeding queen!!! Getting her spayed kind of defeats the object don't ypu think

It is fine for her to go outside - most cats like to have a bit of time away from their kittens and they will be fine without her. But the main point I wanted to make is that she could be pregnant again well before she stops nursing. So if you don't want your breeding queen producing a litter with the local tom, she should not go outside.

barnstaple · 27/04/2008 12:46

Do let her out. She'll be all the better for a bit of fresh air and freedom. She won't get pregnant again this quickly (they're not on heat all the time). Ask your vet this week.

Unless she is a pure-bred cat there is not reason for her to be "a breeding cat"
