Is it separation anxiety

So after my ranting post yesterday, everyone’s replies were amazing and I’m feeling more like I can handle having a dog. My OH has been awesome too.

Now, my next question...

We leave our rescue pup up to 4 hours a day most days and 8 hours on two days. On those days, he gets a dog walker for an hour to come visit and take him out.

He cries when we leave but within a few minutes when I check on the puppy camera he’s quiet. He tends to spend his hours mostly sat looking out of the window. I’ve also seen him laying on the floor, curled up in a ball on the chair and wandering around the living room. His tail (he’s a toy poodle) is down but not tucked. Even when we’re all home, he doesn’t always have his tail up.

He has not had a toilet accident in all the times he’s been alone, he’s not chewed anything except his Kong and he doesn’t appear to be panting etc. He does look a bit forlorn and sad as if he’s sort of just waiting for us to come back! He does bark and howl for a few minutes if he hears a noise outside but then settles into the above situation again.

We’ve had him just over a week and a half.

Any experts tell me if any of this is separation anxiety or just a bit sad we’re not there?!

Thanks all!

Definitely not separation anxiety behaviour, I wouldn’t even say that he’s sad that you’re not there. A week and a half isn’t a lot of time to have your dog and I’d imagine he’s still adapting to his new life.
