Help with a Uncooperative Pet

Hi
Saw a thread about a cat that used to use a litter tray as a kitten, once it went outside would not go near it. Reply was sometimes once a cat toilets outside they will not use a tray again but the vet keeps asking me to keep mine in to collect a speciman. We have tried to keep him in and put up with all the crying but no way will he go in the tray. In the end one time he found a large brown bag and let rip with his loose stool (sorry to be graphic), we gave in at that point, vet does not seem to accept we have tried but failed to get him to stay in and use the tray. Any advice on what we could do to try and encourage him would be much appreciated.

My only advice is to keep picking him up and plonking him in it. Just like you would with a toddler and toilet training. The harder part is that there is never enough granules for the kitty as most like a good scrat first even if they don’t bury it. My cat who used to come in to wee hated those urine sample granules as there were never enough in one packet, we used to have atvleast two packets before she would go.

Good luck! 🍀

EDIT - I'm so sorry! I lost my manners, he is absolutely beautiful 😍
EDIT 2 - I'm assuming it's a urine sample? It it's just a poop one, then keep plonking him in it every 30 minutes.

I had the same with my ginger overlord and ended up putting the litter tray in the garden, in his usual spot and he used it. Might be worth a try.
