Mine does this! Do you have a catflap? What happens if you take the litter tray away and shut them in the same room as the catflap?

You could try putting the tray outside - although the danger then is that every passing cat will start using it as a public toilet. Before you know where you are there will be cottaging, drugs etc etc. Then you'll have to put in some blue neon lights. It will be a nightmare

Or you could just sprinkle a bit of cat litter on top of a handy patch of earth to encourage them to go - but use the biodegradable litter stuff.

Our latest cat (now 9months) used to come back inside to dump, but as she spent more and more time outside she did start pooing outside of her own accord eventually. I think it's just a matter of time.

I usually put the litter tray out and leave them out until they've used it.Then leave tray in virew of the cat flap so when they are in tehy see it outside and go to it.Then a few days later get rid of it and they go outside really works i ahve had many cats

cod you need to put the tray outside by the door

after they start usng it - fill with soil

soon make connection and start using agrden

MotherofUBERboys · 20/04/2008 13:07

assuming you have one. mind you... am vaguely recalling a chimenea thread... (and this from the person who forgot a dentist appt in january and still hasnt followed it up )

Cats ALWAYS poo in other peoples gardens it is a sad fact of life.I hate litter so am a master of getting rid of it within days!

FrannyandZooey · 20/04/2008 13:31

you have to show them
go and do a big poo outside next to the begonias
then show them how to come in and wash their paws

cats always make a beeline for people who hate them/are allergic!

FrannyandZooey · 20/04/2008 13:45

they always fuss round non-cat people
I read once it's because they don't make eye contact, which cats like better than someone coming over looking them in the face and fussing them
contrary bastards

Cod- I frequently agree with you on many salient points, but this is just immoral.

I have a 2 year old. I am sick to death of cleaning other people's cat's poo from my lawn and beds.
If you can't deal with their toileting- don't have pets.
It is disgusting, unhygienic, harmful to pg mothers etc.
Please have a little more consideration for others.

oggsfrog · 20/04/2008 13:58

Maybe you could put the kittens in nappies?

I know this is an old thread but I've just been reading my 'Your New Cat' booklet from Battersea Dogs and Cats home and it suggests this method:
Mix earth and litter in the litter tray indoors for a few days.
Then move litter tray outsdie, still with mixture of earth and litter.
Then just out earth in outdoor litter tray.
Then remove litter tray altogether and show them the flower bed.
