Hi

Our cat is 11 years old, we moved into a new house 2 yrs ago huge garden, however over several months she has been pissing in house over soft furnishing, rug etc. Shes been vets no UTI or anything. It's only since being here, there is a Bengal cat next door who terrorises both our cats, we often end up with it in our kitchen where its chased our cats through catflap, if I go to hang washing up etc it hisses at me and growls, awful animal, I'm a cat lover but that cat is not nice at all, we think it Is down to this cat causing my cat anxiety not making her want to go outside so she's pissing int he house, problem is I have two small children... I'm at my wits end with what to do, my DH mentioned rehoming I don't have the heart to. Has anyone else had any issues like this? If so what did you do? Thank you

Very much sounds like anxiety. This is about trying to keep the other cat away as much as possible so yours feels safe. Can you get one of those chip-activated catflaps? Might not help when the cats are running, as the other one will just come in behind them, but it's a start.

Any way of stopping next door's cat coming into the garden? Sorry if dumb question - if the garden's anything like mine - huge hedges with cat-sized gaps - probably not. I chase the local bully cat off when I see it in my garden, as it attacks my own cat who is terrified of it.

You can also try Feliway calming spray, but I'm not sure that's going to be enough here.

Does your cat not have a litter tray in your home? That would be a starting point even if your cat has always toileted outside previously.

@wanttokickoffbutcant can't have one, two small kids will be trying to mess with it. We can't even put it in another room,.all of downstairs is open plan.

@Owlcat42 we have a chip one yes, yes that's it when she's chasing her, she's right behind so doesn't work. It's a v long garden, we have fences etc we put them spike things up and netting, didn't work cat still got over. Literally the day after we put them up she just got over like it wasn't an issue at all, so annoying. We do spray it with water if we see it attacking cats, the owners husband gave us permission when we initially told him about what they're cat was doing.. 😐

Even a covered one? Is there nowhere at all that is difficult for your children to get to in order to save your home? I really feel for you - cat urine stinks.

You really do need to have a litter tray - having two children isn't a reason not to provide your cat with somewhere safe and clean to use the toilet.

AnnaMagnani · 14/09/2024 09:03

You need a litter tray. Preferrably two. How can it be worse than your current situation? Especially with covered ones.

At the moment cat is too scared to wee outside due to the Bengal.

Can't believe you would rehome a cat you have had for 11 years rather than do some basic cat care.
