I have a poochon, (Bichon mixed with a miniature poodle) last few weeks has started licking paws and is off her food. Does anyone have any ideas or remedies to stop the licking of paws and ears. Thank You

My last dog Max a staffie didn't have the best of health and as a pup and young dog everything he suffered with was all kept under control via meds etc... As he aged i noticed that he started licking his paws and he wouldn't know when to stop,he would lick lick lick lick until he would start chokeing and coughing and then once he got himself back together again and caught his breath he would start up licking again it would drive me batchy! No matter what i tried to get him to stop he wasn't having any of it he was adamant that he was going to lick his paw and that was that! This behaviour built up from originally thinking he was just cleaning himself to knowing something definitely wasn't right.
By now he was getting older and was back and fore the vets due to his ill health more than he was at home with me so when at the vets one day i asked about the constant licking of his paws and apparently a dog will act out this behaviour as somewhere on their body they are in discomfort or in pain but it's a place that either they can't reach such as their behind or maybe something going on internally,so they then lick their paws as it's the closest thing they can reach to lick. I suppose it makes sense really because a dog will lick a wound to help heal himself or if they have a limp they lick the paw. Anyway i hope this helps but i would definitely enquire it with your Vet as a precaution and to rule out anything malicious going on. Please keep us updated.

I did take her to the vets and it was nothing serious, she basically had the smallest knot in her hair and she was trying to get it off, we cut it out and shes not been licking as much and its not red and sore now.

We were also recommended by the vets salmon oil, it helps with all sorts of things, skin and coat, digestion, tummy. Its worked a treat.

I'm going to try my pup with the salmon oil too as iv heard some great feedback. A friend's dog who's a very fussy eater is now demolishing her food and looking for more and her coat is really shiny too plus she's a totally different dog altogether since salmon oil. I hope it works for your dog, keep us updated please 😁
