We’re away on holiday with a neighbour popping in to feed dcat. She goes in and out through a side window during the day then it’s shut overnight. Last night I saw her go out about 7.45pm on the camera and since then she hasn’t been back 😢. Missed breakfast and tea. She rarely stays out overnight and has never missed a meal. She’s 3. There was a big thunderstorm at home around that time apparently. So it’s over 24 hours now. Have asked neighbours to check garages etc.
got a bad feeling about it 😢
anyone got tales of cats doing that and returning a few days later?

Good news!

Ours went missing for three days. Day tree back in missing his collar and looking a bit thinner but otherwise fine. We think he might have got his collar stuck on something and couldn't get loose for a bit. He doesn't wear a collar now.

I think she was clearly just punishing us for being away! All your stories really helped, thank you

So glad your furbaby is back, OP. She just wanted to remind you who is boss. You probably didn’t fill in your leave application properly.

I forgot that I had another missing cat story to share:

I was house and cat sitting for the parents of a friend. Cat went missing. It was a very big house in a posh part of London. I looked everywhere. I opened doors that were normally closed and then had to look again in case he had snuck past me into those rooms. I went outside in the ga4den and searched. I walked up and down the street with treats calling his name.

Nothing.

I was trying to think how to gent,y phrase ‘I’ve lost your cat’ to them and feeling terrible. It was after midnight. I was exhausted so went to bed.

Bloody cat was sitting on my bed waiting for me.

Our cat disappeared. Gave it a few days as they do like to wander. Decided some posters around the village would be helpful - printed them off, about to go out and put them up and who should be sat at the back door? Missing cat!!! 😆🙄

we inherited mil's cat when she died, aged 19 we thought a sedate old lady, nope a terror who the dogs are scared of and brings all sorts of creatures in.
we went away over night left her plenty of food foolishly left catflap open as usual so she could go in and out to her hearts content.
got home no cat waited all day still no cat. sleepless night posts all over social media asking neighbours etc no sign of her not even on cams and doorbells. after a week we were beginning to think due to her age maybe she had just gone away to die as cats often do. we kept walking everywhere to see if we could find her dead or alive. as we have many badgers in the wood behind us we wondered if she had died and badgers had ate her.
we cried many tears my oh last link with his mum. then I was at work 4 weeks later and the man from the next shop to me came running in asking if i had seen facebook today A local hair salon had had a black cat come sauntering in and was lay on their patio sunning themselves making an almighty racket. Minky is pure black as it said on the description they were waiting for a partner with car to take said cat to vet for chip checking. Minky is still chipped to mils which is only up the road but wrong number at that time phone is disconnected. I rang them up and asked them to hold on she might be ours but I doubted it as too far from us. the said fine she was eating tin of salmon.
OH walked in and no mistake she ran straight in and made such a noise she is bad enough anyway but he had to carry her in his arms down the street and everyone was looking! she was shouting at the top of her voice as if telling him off.
no idea where she went; to get to the salon she would have had to cross 4 very busy main roads no idea what she ate or where she slept but no one had seen any black cats in town the football pitch park etc. we spent hours watching doorbells and cctv we had had her a couple years then but she has never gone since and is now 22 in very rude health
