IVDD in frenchie

Hello looking for some similar stories and how they panned out.

Our 3 year old frenchie started dragging her legs yesterday and in terrible pain. We took her to the vets and they said a ruptured disc or slipped one in her lower back. They gave us medication for a week and told us for her to be on strict crate rest. I am right in thinking this is IVDD when looked into.

she has feeling in her back legs but drags them, cannot move them at all. She is messing in her bed and urinating if we get her in the correct position but has done this also in her bed.

I feel like she isn’t getting better and wonder if after a week what they will say. She is drinking but we have to feed her at the moment by hand. She seems miserable. The pain meds are working.

Poor thing.
Definitely sounds like IVDD, especially as she's a Frenchie.

If affordable or you're insured, you should request imaging as she may benefit from surgery and the sooner this is done, the better the outcome.

If not an option, I think keep doing what you're doing. Hopefully she improves soon.

Yes, the vet said try the meds for a week. We have an app for a weeks time to see them again. Then scans etc. feel so bad for her. It’s so sad and so sudden that it’s heartbreaking. Thank you for your response.

Honestly if you have insurance or enough funds you need to ask for referral for imaging and possible surgery tomorrow. Disc disease is really common in frenchies but surgery is often indicated and a week is too long if you might want surgery.

If you have Facebook there are some very helpful Frenchie IVDD pages. We thought ours might be starting with it so joined them. Thank fully he was just a bit sore. Sending speedy recovery vibes. So awful seeing them in pain.

Thank you I will check this out. I have been researching the internet non stop continuously since she went to the vets. Glad your pup hasn’t got it. Xx
