My DB is going to pick his first dog up today and I'm really happy for him.

It means he will stop stealing my dogs

He has rescued a 2 year old staffy male, we went to see him last week and DB has just had his house check and is now going to pick him up.

The dog is apparently good with kids and other dogs, so now we just need to be able to introduce him to my dogs.
Does anyone have any advice on how to do this?

One of my dogs I know will be fine but the other can be a bit funny when meeting new dogs and takes a while to get used to them.

it always seems best to introduce them outside then take them indoors together. Be as calm an relaxed about it paying no attention to the dogs and letting them find there own level. this has always worked with parents dogs.

Thanks I think we will meet at the park near my house a few times before we bring them inside together.

Yes- definitely meet on neutral ground to start with. Good luck!

congratulations! Am so glad he picked a staffy, there are so many of them looking for homes but they always seem to get overlooked.

I agree with meeting on neutral territory and bringing them all indoors together. I'd also recommend keeping them all on leads in case there is any grumpiness!

Ooooh, how lovely for your DB As for dogs meeting dogs, definatly on leads. And neutral ground if you can. Our german shepherd met my jack russell (who lives with my mum) at the weekend, we didn't ahve them on leads but DH was holding the german shepherd. Then we just let them run around together and get all the chasing over and done with! So funny to watch a german shepherd run away from a tiny jack russell! They might growl, but play growl if you know what I mean... sounds scary but IME it's just playfulness. Obviously you know what sounds mean what with your dog, you will probably know if it's an agressive sort of growl.

Ladyofwaffle-we have a German Shepherd and a Jack Russell. They get on really well together-we got the JR as a puppy last year and the German Shepherd has looked after her as if she was her own (but still keeps her in order!)

Well I met DB and Max at the park near my house with my two girls and DD. They all hit it off instantly. I was so shocked, Max is a lovely dog and very playful but he seems to know when to back down. He is only 2 years old and mine are 8 and 7 this year.

They all had a little play fight and then got on with the walk and ball fetching. I am so glad they got on well. I knew my JR/staffy cross would be ok but my other dog (Collie/doberman cross) can be really funny sometimes but she was really good. She let him sniff her as well and she never usually lets any other dog sniff her!!

I think we are going to meet on neutral territory again, probably go to the beach tomorrow and then a few more times before we can take them all indoors though. Just to be on the safe side.
