Am I being selfish to get a dog?

I'm in my early 50's and I have had rheumatoid arthritis for 20 years. I'm on medication and I am seen regularly by my rheumatology team.
I've always wanted a dog but both my husband and I worked full time and didn't think it was fair to leave a dog for hours at a time.
Sadly my husband died a couple of years ago and I was medically retired from work. I now run a small business from home.
I've been thinking about getting a rescue dog but I wonder if it's unfair. I can't walk very far but I have lots of dog walkers near me who are highly recommended by friends.
I really don't know what to do - I would love to get a dog but I want to be fair to the dog as well.
Any thoughts welcome please

Please get a dog! You will be a lovely dog mum and there will be someone out there perfect for you. Please report back and keep us posted 🐶

Dog trainer here…..
As long as you choose an age/breed/temperament of dog to suit your set up, you will be the perfect match for a lucky dog.

A dog would be very lucky to have an owner around all the time. I would maybe go for an older rescue, I’m sure they would be more than happy with you!
