we have a 6yr old cocker/border cross bitch
she's been a fantastic dog from the word go, easy to train, lovely temprament and brilliant with the kids who have come along since we got her as a pup - esp when dd2 tortures her but too much loving/hugging/patting etc

she has now taken to following me and sitting right where I need to be/walk/stand etc

I have tripped over her so many times this week that am not sure I haven't done her a damage or nearly killed myself

can they 'sense' when you're pregnant? is it some kind of protective instinct she's developed

or is it that she IS trying to kill me as she can't cope with another child who wants to ride her like a horse or brush her lovingly with a tennis racquet?!?!?

That's sweet. I'm guessing she might be feeling a little insecure because of your pregnancy.

My former dog had a 'protective instinct' for whichever bit of carpet I was just about to hoover. He would lie down on it, then when asked to move he would get up and lie down in the adjacent square feet.

In the end I just hoovered him too.

pmsl!! am not about to pick her up and carry her about all day so she can forget that notion

have taken her out for a huge walk today seeing as was decent weather so hopefully she'll collapse somewhere and stop trying to top me off

Is she mentioned in your will?

dizzydixies · 31/03/2008 22:59

pmsl, she'd probably the main benefactor of dh's but all she would get in mine are the kids and debt lol

Hmm, maybe you need to have a word with her and tell her that you're DH is the one she needs to be erm, focusing her attentions on
My poor small dog has often nearly been squashed! she has a habit of standing behind you and as she is only about 10" tall she is very vulnerable to falling victim to feet!

now you see THAT I understand but she's more collie height than cocker and she's black so its not as if I shouldn't be able to see her in broad daylight!!

will have a word to make sure she only goes for him whilst he is in uniform, he's worth more when one duty than at home

You should get one of those little fluorescent jackets for her!
