we have an 11 wk old cocker spaniel girl. She's great and really good but has always been nippy. The last few days she has been extremely nippy/snappy and will snap her jaws at you and most times you touch her she will nip at you. She's always getting dd's clothes. I know some nipping withpuppies is expected but everything seems to be explored with her mouth and its getting a bit extreme now. Is there anything anyone can recommend. we've tried yelping and ignoring her but it doesnt seem to be working.

She generally lieks being cuddled but of course its a catch 22 - you try andcuddle and then she nips or snaps.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Yelping didn't work with our pup - screaming did! A really agonised scream. Our dog trainer showed us, and my god it worked - she stopped in less than a day.

I think our neighbours think we're very kinky now, though.

Hi,i have an 11 week old cocker spaniel girl. She is adorable, very intelligent. She has already learnt sit, and down, and comes to her name. However, the nipping, biting, snapping and growling is getting worse. It seems now that whenever she is awake this is her sole purpose in life. If you push her away she lunges back at you, if you yelp she lunges back and she takes no notice of no. It all seems so confusing how to deal with this, we have read many forums and books with conflicting advice, so how do you know what you should do? We do have many many toys and limit them to two or three at a time and keep rotating them so she does not get bored. We always offer the toy when she is biting and she will take it and chew it for a bit but then she decides lunging and biting at us is more fun. Other than this problem she seem lovely. Nice and cuddly when she is not biting and almost housetrained already. She responds well to be told off by the cat though!

Shar, have you booked her in for puppy obedience training? (not just socialisation) - she should start from 12 weeks.

The snapping, biting and lunging is dominance coming through - if you don't deal with it now, you're going to have many issues on your hands.

Do you have Freeview? The Dog Whisperer is the best person I've seen give advice as he uses dog psychology, pack mentality and realises that ALL dogs are 89% wolf - they all have the same brain functions. He is amazing to watch and glean advice from.
