Is Cat insurance effective immediately ?

One of my cats (rescued in Nov) has blood in her urine & peeing on the kitchen floor. Have just rung the vets & it's £117. Just wondered if I took out an insurance, whether it's effective immediately ?

Also, any recommendations ?

Thanks : - )

Although the policy is immediately effective, you usually cannot claim for first 7 days or 14 days depending on the policy. But shop around you might find some that will let you.

Is Vets £117 for full treatment? Usually most policies have an excess of at least £30 to £50 - so even if insured you would only get the difference back over the excess.

I've got my cat insured by the RSPCA.

It is effective immediately but you may have a certain amount of time before you can claim; I'm not sure.

Usually you cant claim for a few days and you cant claim for an existing condition.

you won't be able to claim for an existing condition.. IYKWIM
so you would be in trouble if you took out insurance to try to cover something your cat already has.
you could try to get help from the cats protection league or the rescue centre you got her from?

If you try and claim for your cats illness the insurance will be null and void.

BUT

I've seen a company called Vets4pets (i think) and their treatment on the whole is cheaper

thanks - I am hoping it's just cystitis.

Just off to the vets now...

even if you don't tell the insurance company about previous cystitis episodes your vets will have to declare it when they fill in any claims forms in the future, so even if you take out cover now you will not be able to get cover for this. If you change vets you will be required to provide details of previous vets, so that is not an option either.

Hi, she does appear to have cystitis & has had anti inflammatory & 2 week long lasting anti biotic. Have just taken her back because yesterday & today she is another wee with blood in it.

Another shot of anti inflammatory + some cystaid tablets for 2 weeks...
