we bought him as a baby in novemeber for dd's birthday and as he was so young we were told not to leave him outside so we put him in the outhouse.

the weather is starting to improve now and he is a lot older so do you think he will be fine if i move him to a sheltered area of the garden.

he is a dirty little bugger and always pees in the same spot (after kicking all the sawdust away) and it seeps out the hutch onto the floor, no matter how much i clean it it still stinks.

My rabbits are out all year round,I just make sure they have lots of extra hay if it gets really cold, in fact the only time we have ever lost a bunny because of the weather was one summer when it was really really hot. I would put him out I think they like having something different to look at as well, mine watch the cats ect.

yes put him out. i put a bit of old lino on the bottom of the cages to keep the wee from rotting the wood. they also sit in cat litter trays which they always keep clean and dry.

we breed rabbits and ours are outside permanatly from birth all we do is cover the front of hutches with tarpalin at night and in bad weather at the end of the day they live outdoors in the wild. just put extra bedding in when it is really cold hth

ok thanks everyone, he is in his run during the day anyway so it really is just cold nights i am worried about.

he has seen me moving his hutch and did not look to impressed

Dont worry he should enjoy it ,lots going on in gardens at night, we often hear ours thumping there feet in the night I think in the wild it is a warning, make sure his well locked up in case of foxes.

CountryGirl2007 · 28/03/2008 20:40

You really should get him a companion. It's not fair to keep him alone. As well as companionship they also snuggle up together for warmth.

Maidamess · 28/03/2008 20:42

I put a cat litter tray in my rabbit hutch...its a god send.

Failing that, an old baking tray in the corner with saw dust on will stop the stinky rabbit pee soaking into the wood. easier to clean, too.

CountryGirl2007 · 28/03/2008 20:46

I also forgot to say, about him peeing in the same spot, that is a good thing! it means he has reserved that area as his toilet area. He would probably be easy to house train if you decided to keep him as a house pet.

Can I echo what CountryGirl said. Rabbits need a companion. It breaks my heart to see rabbits in solitary confinement. I feel equally sad for those that have to live all their time in a hutch .

southeastastra · 28/03/2008 21:04

i had to split my two female rabbits, they are sisters but really fought badly with each other. i should have got them spayed really

CountryGirl2007 · 28/03/2008 21:15

There isn't usually a problem with rabbits that aren't related. I suppose it's like sibling rivalry lol whereas 2 non-related rabbits are just friends.
