We CANNOT get rid of these fleas!

We have 2x female litter mate kittens (7mo). We flead them and the home on their arrival and never had a problem until about 2 months ago, when we noticed them itching a lot. Now we cannot get rid of them (the fleas, not the cats)

We hoover every day (2 kids under 3 - needed), deep vacuum weekly (behind furniture), indorex spray weekly, spot on treatment for the cats monthly (Itch subscription), we flea comb them twice daily and find live fleas EVERY SINGLE TIME. Today I saw one crawling on my toddlers bed and freaked out. They are indoor cats so not exposed to any other animals. We’ve not had guests recently, no idea how to tackle this. HELP

I had to get rid of my carpets & get the place fumigated when I had a very bad infestation years ago, the eggs were all in the fibres. Maybe a deep steam cleaner & something to kill the fleas & eggs? Pay attention to the wall/skirting crevices. I wonder if diatomaceous earth works on fleas as it's kryptonite to most horrible bugs?

We have to buy prescription flea treatment every 12 weeks to get rid of our cats fleas. Over the counter flea treatments just don’t work. The only one that was good was Advantage but that doesn’t do ticks as well.

We are having the same issue and I am
not sure what more we can do. We have been hoovering, spraying indorex, regularly washing bedding, blankets etc and using vet strength treatment for a month now with no luck. We don’t have loads but still find one or two a week

This has been a problem for some time now. Fleas have become resistant to most of the vet prescribed treatments in many parts of the country. We have found that Advantage, Advocate, Stronghold and Endectrid no longer work. Our clinic has switched to using Nexgard, which has proved 100 per cent effective. The other one that works is Bravecto. If your vet doesn't stock either you can ask for a prescription and buy online.

Prescription flea treatment and indorex on absolutely everything- I used six cans when I treated my house then rigorous daily vacuuming

TheSnowyOwl · 19/03/2024 20:08

I would get a spot on that works from your vet and also get them injected with something like Program so you both stop the flea cycle and also kill as many as you can in the meantime.

You need to fumigate the house. You can buy the smoke bombs on Amazon. It might take more than one attempt as eggs hatch out. We had the problem last summer and it took three goes to finally treat them. and we still had to hoover and spray daily. Good luck.

Bravecta for us, plus a flea collar inside the hoover, empty it outside immediately, lots of indorex and make sure you are hoovering all the crevices, under sofas, beds, everywhere, against skirtings, every other day. For about 3 weeks.

You need Nexgard or Bravecto

KingNidge · 19/03/2024 20:30

Itch doesn't work. You need one from the vet.

Runnerinthenight · 19/03/2024 20:31

Our vet prescribes Nexgard.

You are absolutely wasting your money buying fipronil.
Do the Indorex once properly then don’t repeat - it has an ingredient that persists for 12 months. You need all the fleas that are in a pupa to hatch because the spray doesn’t penetrate to kill them. Encourage hatching with warmth, humidity, vibration. Heating on, bowl of water on top of radiator, hoover first. Then spray - the whole carpet especially round edges and under heavy furniture. One room at a time, ventilate before re-using. Any bedding (human or pet) through a hot wash. With the best will in the world, once the house is infested it will take a while to clear - fleas can complete their whole life cycle in 3 weeks or hang about as a pupa for months. You need to consistently treat the cats with prescription strength flea treatment for months so that any stragglers attach and are killed before they get chance to breed.
