Or have you all disappeared into the mud?

They always seem very quiet on here!!
Glad to report that the mud seems to be drying up now and we have light in the evenings

Hi Pedilia, Nice to meet you . We still have mud which was very unfortunate on friday when my welly split across the top! Yuk!
Still, there's definitely a hint of spring in the air today and as you say, the clocks going forward really helps. Roll on summer!

Last few day have been great and my TB has gone rugless for the first time, my arab has not had s rug all winter except when the rain was really bad!

What horses do you have?
I have a 18 year old 16hh TB gelding, 10 year old 15hh purebred arab mare and an 8 year ols shetland mare.

Pixel · 01/04/2008 21:04

Where are you? I'm on the south coast and it's been pretty cold and miserable. Can't see us taking rugs off yet.
We have my sister's 18 yo section D, a 25 yo shetland on loan (for ds), and my mum and I share an Irish cob. We were told when we bought him last year that he would be turning 4 this month but have since discovered that he's not yet 3. Oops! In a way it's lucky the weather has been so awful otherwise we might have been doing more with him. As it is, he's only been doing some gentle walking on the roads once or twice a week as we've had no-where dry to school. He's quite a hefty chap as you can see on the pic on my profile so no harm done hopefully. I'm now wondering just how tall he is going to get as my creaky old bones have enough trouble climbing on him now .

I am in Cambridge
They are all lovely, he is a chunky fella (more to love) he is the type we are looking for DH.
Stunning sec D, I was torn between an arab and section D!

Once I have had DD4 in June I am hoping to get back into the saddle asap, I am still riding but only short hacks on Izzy as she is the most sensible, even though she is a chestnut mare!

How old is DS? Does he have lessons?

snorris · 01/04/2008 21:26

I'm still about, don't always see the horsey threads and tend to forget about them .
I've entered dd1 & my Fell for their first ever county show . We shall be trundling off to Devon County in May at some ungodly hour! I've just spent a small fortune on new gear for them both-at least they'll look the part even if they don't perform .

pedilia · 01/04/2008 21:27

ooh good luck snorris, make sure you get a piccie

How old is DD1?

snorris · 01/04/2008 21:39

Thanks. She'll be 13 in July. We've only ever done the local stuff but you usually get better judges at county level so thought we'd give it a go.

Pixel · 01/04/2008 22:19

Sounds exciting Snorris! My sister has been researching her pony's history and has discovered that he has won county show championships in the past. Like you we only ever did anything at local level and that was 20-odd years ago so we know nothing about showing but sis has bought an in-hand bridle so I think she is getting keen .
Pedilia, ds is 7. He doesn't have lessons, we just take him out on the lead rein as he has special needs (ASD) and wouldn't be able to follow instructions. Also he refuses to touch the reins which could be seen as a bit of a drawback! He enjoys riding though and is quite fearless so I live in hope.

just too busy renovating the house to think about horses at the mo. It's all beams, floors, plaster & not much else round here

pedilia · 02/04/2008 18:27

good luck with the renovations Tickle, your very brave!

Did any of you continue to ride while you were preganant?

cazboldy · 02/04/2008 18:37

Hi all

I only did with ds1 (until I told my parents at about 16wks - I was 14!) after that I didn't.

Mud very much in eveidence here

I have a 9yo bay shetland mare, who we have had for 4 years, and a rising 3 welsh section b liver chestnut chappie with a big white blaze and 4 white socks, and am in the process of hunting for a new pony for dd, as she is outgrowing the shetland.

pedilia · 02/04/2008 18:41

hi Caz

Isn't that the problem with shetlands, DS1 is outgrowing her and we are starting to look for another one for her but what a nightmare trying to find a suitable small pony!

cazboldy · 02/04/2008 18:49

You are telling me! People seem to want a fortune for anything remotely suitable.....

pedilia · 04/04/2008 19:41

well I am giving my sharer notice tommorrow she is lovely but is completely overhorsed and my TB bolted down the road with her on Thursday
It is an accident waiting to happen and a risk I just cannot take.
I hate conversations like this so sympathy please.......................

Pixel · 05/04/2008 00:44

Oh dear, that's a bit awkward. Has she been sharing for long or can you claim that the 'trial' unfortunately hasn't worked out?
I wish you luck anyway, not much fun having to give someone bad news but as you say, better safe than sorry.

I had a similar situation when I was pg with number 4 and my now sil,(who was brothers gf then) was riding my mare for me.

she used to walk her away from the yard, and then return at full pelt, clinging on for dear life - turned out that although her protestations of "I can ride" were not entirely untrue, she had never ridden out of a school much tongue holding needed - but very awkward!

pedilia · 05/04/2008 14:10

She has been sharing him for about 10 months so quite a while.
The main problem is that he has no respect for her on the ground or in the saddle so taks the piss!
He is not a difficult horse but is way to much for her and things are getting worse not better!

I told her this morning and she ws fine, she said she knows it is for the best, there may be an oppurtunity for her to share/loan another horse on the yard that would be easier for her.
Relief all round I think!

Now I am looking for someone to loan him from the yard as the last time I loaned him out he was stolen and sold to a dealer
