I think my DH loves the cat more than our baby

We have a 5 month old, DH to be fair is pretty good, he helps with nappies, plays with her, reads to her etc. But I see the way he looks at her then the way he looks at our cat and I just know the cats his favourite. My friends think I'm over reacting but his phone screensaver is the cat, his WhatsApp profile pic is him and the cat and he speaks to the cat more like a baby than our actual baby. Should I confront him about it or am I over reacting?

Cats rule, babies drool.

That is sooo true. 🤣😻

I'm pretty sure my DH loves his 2 dogs just as much as he loves me. We go downstairs in the morning and I see how he smiles when he sees them. When he sits down they rush to his side. They are velcro dogs. Me, I love my 2 purr babies. 😻 We both love DC too. Don't mention it to him because he'll think you've lost the plot. Just get him to do more for baby.

Well I get it OP, it would bother me a bit too! Is he having trouble bonding with the baby though? 5 months is a lovely age where they are giggling and really starting to show their little personality, so it's a shame if he's not taking pleasure from the baby.

I dropped my DP at the airport this morning, his last words as he got out the car were ‘I love you very much, look after my kids’ He was referring to our two cats!

The perfect man does exist!!

How would that go exactly though? "I know you love Tiddles more than you love our baby!" You're really overrating on this one.

If you have great cats, you love em. Doesn't mean he loves his child any less as he is being the same as always with Tiddles.

Aww, lovely 😍

he helps with nappies
Would you refer to how you care for your child as ‘helping’? If not then he isn’t ‘helping’, he’s just being a parent.

betterangels · 06/01/2024 11:59

I mean, what would you achieve by a confrontation except a pointless argument? If he is an engaged parent, what more do you want? Babies aren't that interesting. I bet he'll come around when your child is older and has more of a personality.

You should stop thinking of him as 'helping', though. He's a parent same as you.

How are you feeling in general OP? Sometimes we fix on a minor thing to avoid bigger things we are worried about.

Still school holidays 😆

momager1 · 06/01/2024 12:43

I remember years ago, when we were on a two week holiday . I was at the beach with my book and said to my husband " I miss the kids" He said, "I miss the dogs more" LOL.
